We have been coming to the Fisherman for over 40 years. It has generally been an enjoyable place to dine and has rated a score of 4 or 5, in our opinion. Last week, it was my wife's birthday and we thought we would have a nice dinner there, but we were wrong.

When we arrived, the hostess had stepped away and a waitress came over. We had a reservation and were told to wait a minute. There were 3 people who just entered behind us. They said they had no reservation. However, the waitress decided to assign them a table before us and took them to a choice location directly across from the hostess station. There seemed to be plenty of additional vacant tables in that area. However, when she returned, she took us to a table way in the back near the kitchen.

I then mentioned to the waitress that we were long time customers and had come to celebrate my wife's birthday. She seemed unphased. We said nothing further and sat down.

There were long waits between visits by the waitress. She seemed rushed and snappy. She never brought bread for the table, but yet other tables were provided with bread. She seemed to be good buddies with a couple of gentlemen at another table she was serving, but whenever she came over to us, she was short and rushed. It was drive-by waitressing.

We received our salads fairly quickly, but we waited a very long time for the entrees.

While we were waiting, a supervisor came by to ask how everything was. We didn't want to complain as we wanted to be in a good mood and not spoil our evening. She asked if we needed more bread, and we told her that we never got any and that it didn't matter at that point. (We were past the point of having an appetite for bread.) The waitress served us in drive-by mode throughout the meal.

The food was mediocre.

At the end of the meal, the waitress brought over a basket of bread and asked if we would "like more bread". I told her we never got any. The bread was warm, but dry and hard. We didn't eat any.

For dessert, we were offered the selections by the waitress. My wife selected one. A while later, the waitress returned and said they had run out of it. She asked if she wanted something else and my wife said no, thank you. The waitress responded "well, I tried". No happy birthday for my wife.

Our bill was $190.89, with the tip, for the 2 of us. Although we did not enjoy our experience, we felt that she worked hard (and she was pregnant), running around serving tables, and we left a 20% tip anyway.

We are writing this review to indicate to the management that all was not well. Of all the choices in the area that we had to celebrate my wife's birthday, we chose The Fisherman, and it was a...

Came from over an hour away to see Mystic for a day. We were looking for a typical seaside clam shack to get a plate of greasy clams. Someone else sent us here. THIS IS NOT A CLAM SHACK!!! This is an upscale place that has a rather pricey menu. By the time we figured it out, it was too late to go find anything else and so we decided to try it out. First disappointment was the patio being closed despite several signs saying it was open. Whatever. We just asked for a window seat. The view was the next disappointment. Again, whatever. Not really anything that they can control. I asked for root beer. No go. We decided to order whole belly clam plates for dinner. As we were finishing our appetizers, we were told that they were out of clams. This was dinner time on a Saturday night and more than half of the tables were empty. That should have been a red flag for me, being as I have spent MANY years in the restaurant industry. How they could have been out of clams with this little business at this time of night was beyond me. Anyway, we foraged ahead with other choices. I had a fried shrimp plate. The shrimp were excellent. However, the fries and cole slaw were the worst I have ever had. I couldn't eat any of it despite the fact that I will eat everything that I have to pay for and I hate to throw food away. My mother settled on a bowl of Bisque that was absolutely flavorless. My wife chose a surf and turf that had a steak that was overpowered by some kind of garlic stuff that we really didn't like despite the fact that we both eat garlic a great deal. The stuffed shrimp, while being cooked perfectly, tasted like the stuffing was from a box. That was a $30 plate. All the while, our server was scarce and very inattentive. We got more attention from another server. And despite our complaints, we were never approached by management about any of it. I have had much worse meals and service in my time, but not while dropping almost $100. And I might add, that was with no alcoholic beverages. two sodas and water only. Oh, and I forgot about the cold dinner rolls and cold, over spiced butter...

Do not be fooled by some of the reviews on here, the food is mediocre and the service is HORRIBLE.

Last year I went searching for a place to have my rehearsal dinner in the area. My fiance and I had lunch here and weren't completely blown away but liked that the patio had such a great view. I called the restaurant 6 months in advance to inquire about hosting the rehearsal there on the patio.

The first time I called they told me to call back because Kristal wasn't in and she handles the events. Fine, while I didn't find this to be convenient for me I didn't think anything of it. I left my contact information, the date for the event and was told she would contact me.

3 days later, with no one reaching out to me I contacted the restaurant again. Same thing, she wasn't in she'll call you. I called for the next 4 days!!!! She was either not in till 4pm, not in for the day or "she hasn't contacted you yet?" It was as if the restaurant wasn't interested in making a couple thousand dollars.

A week and a half from my first call, she contacted me, finally. And she never apologized for not getting back to me sooner. She went on to tell me about the type of service they offered for rehearsal dinners, that my date was available and even the outrageous fee for renting the patio that Friday night. We spoke for about 10 minutes, I told her I wanted to put a deposit down on the patio, and she promised to send the menus over via email the next morning so that I could make selections.

Nothing for 2 days, so I email her requesting the menus again and info so that I can make out the deposit. 4 days later!!!! She emails me back saying they do not rent the patio on a holiday weekend and sorry for the inconvenience. ONE SENTENCE. I wanted to scream. lol

Over 2 weeks of trying to get in touch with this place and going back and forth and she writes one sentence. With a completely insincere apology.

In short stay away!! They obviously don't care about their customers or being professional for...

This afternoon my wife and I took a day trip to the Groton-Mystic area and all points in between. Lunchtime we stopped in the Fisherman Restaurant at Long Pt. on 937 Groton Long Pt. Rd. in Groton, CT. Perfect timing for me, it was around 11:25 so the restaurant didn't have anyone seated great for taking pictures. I will say not too short;y thereafter the place had several parties seated. Very nice and clean restaurant, with absolutely beautiful views of Palmers Cove. Nice bright dining room with plenty od seating and decorated with numerous types of fish mounted on the walls. Enough about the logistics, down to business the food. we each started with a cup of clam chowder. Chowder had great taste and was a filling cup of thick chowder. My wife ordered a chopped salad with chicken, I ordered the seared tuna salad. My wife's salad was good according to her and she also said it was actually more than what she thought it was. my seared tuna salad was without doubt one of my top 10 lunch salads ever. nicely seared tuna slices seasoned just right, melt in your mouth. the rest of my salad was "shredded" carrots, sliced cukes, sliced avocado and a fresh lettuce in a sesame dressing with sliced almonds. Yummy Yummy it was great. The service was great, the atmosphere great and the food was great. I know it's a Wednesday afternoon in February, I can only imagine in the Summer trying to get a table for lunch or dinner. The views of the water and seeing the Amtrak train travel by what a great spot . We will be back for sure.

So my wife and I come to mystic Connecticut area for our 9th wedding anniversary.. my wife booked the fisherman restaurant based on reviews she read.. well some the the Reviews Don’t remotely through the place justice the food was outstanding service was outstanding from start to finish was just absolutely ruins talk about some of the fresh seafood overhead the clams in the oysters amazing shrimp cocktail as fresh as you Can possible to get. For dinner I ordered the special tonight which was a fillet of solo with stuffed lobster in a cream sauce talk about a homerun that dish is just a grand slam I did recommend to the owner that maybe try to pair that up with salmon or Seabass two of the favorite fish to eat. My wife ordered the Cold Lobster roll and even that was another homerun I can’t say that any of this is that we had a night with horrible bad we were just absolutely amazing one better than the next I will drive again three of ours do you need to get Justin at his restaurant now I’m sorry that you’ve only last me to give it a five star review but I’m gonna give us a 20star review One of the top restaurants that I’ve been to in the last several years between food service atmosphere new year outside inside the restaurant was just as nice as the outside was I want to come with the staff for being absolutely amazing and your work ethic, the owner an outstanding please and my best to the chefs that have cooked some of the best meals or dishes that I’ve had in the last several years my hat goes off to you guys

Where to start? We had a 6:30 reservation on a Monday night. When I made the reservation I was told it would be a slow night so no problem being seated outside. We were there at 6:15 and got in line to wait. There were a couple of groups of people ahead of us. It took 25 minutes to be acknowledged and seated. Not outside. We were told they were down a server and we would have to wait an additional 15 minutes to sit outside so we took an indoor table. We waited some more for drinks. So long that we jumped to order our dinners as soon as the drinks were brought to our table to avoid another interminable wait. I had ordered baked cod with spinach and crispy potatoes. The cod was swimming in a milky liquid with a slight flavor of white wine and sprinkled with dried out capers. Really horrible. The spinach was sprinkled with raw chopped garlic. The potatoes were so over-cooked they were dried out like the capers. Just terrible. When our meals finally arrived we ordered fresh drinks but they didn't arrive until we were through with our meals. We refused them and paid our bill. My husband was so upset by the entire experience that he asked to speak to the manager. They sent out the sous chef. Really?! Just don’t bother unless you don’t mind waiting forever for bad service and inedible food.
