Wood Fired Oven — Restaurant in Grottoes

We live in the area so this is one of the few options if we are at home but don’t feel like cooking. The food is good (the ranch dressing has improved a lot!) Service has always been iffy, especially coordination with the kitchen. I wasn’t surprised when pizza came out with pepperoni instead of pineapple- no big deal, just eat it anyway. Also not a shock that 3 of our 5 meals arrived but the other two weren’t ready, even though the missing ones were a sub and a sandwich. A couple minutes, no big deal, right? Nope. My diabetic father and mother who just had surgery were left sitting without food so long my 6 year old had completely finished her meal before they were served!!! When I mentioned to the server that the kitchen needed to better coordinate orders, she got very defensive- even though I was being calm, polite and made it clear I understood she can’t control the kitchen. What she can and SHOULD control is the guest experience. There were no updates, no checking if she could get anything in the meantime, etc. (and no offer of compensation for the trouble although we would’ve declined). Not only was the order not correct and the driver had to come back the first, yes first time, they had to come back a second time be cause we ordered a large onion ring 6.00 and when we opened the container there was 4 small onion rings. So just assumed a large 90.00 order, maybe short staffed. We ordered again awhile later, ordered a meat lovers pan pizza, and a sub. The pizza dough was raw in the middle, I could make a dough ball out of it. Called the manager, after 15minutes of going back and forth, he said I will give you a pizza. I ask if he needed a name. He said no I worked at Ciros for 10 years I have delivered to you before. I called to get the FREE pizza, another back and forth conversation that no one even knew what I was talking about, when I was told to call and when they brought up my address and phone number there would be a note. Wood fried oven use to be amazing and the quality of food and portions we awesome. THIS PLACE IS A JOKE. CIROS, they no what’s going on, food is better, and the value of having an order delivered with no issues and the friendliness of the staff are an A++++, experience. Even if the cost is a bit higher, worth every penny to know that things are gonna be done...

Management deserves ONE star. Our waitress was quick & friendly but there was a misunderstanding over which calzone was ordered. The low score is absolutely NOT for our waitress, she was apologetic & quickly attempted to fix what was clearly an honest mistake. The low score is for the way management handled the problem. They did NOT offer to replace the item even though it had not been eaten. They did NOT apologize or make ANY attempt to make it right. They informed our waitress if she replaced the item SHE would be required to pay for it out of her own pocket which she ultimately chose to do. Having been in the food service industry as both waitstaff & management, I am appalled that management not only did not take steps to remedy the situation but also failed to apologize or visit our table at all. This had become a regular visit for us but we will be looking for other restaurants in the area to patronize. Two stars only because the waitress was good & the food we received was acceptable.
