When we first arrived our waitress Stacy was pleasant. However she forgot our croutons and was in the back of the restaurant eating so my mother had to flag her down to remind her. In the meantime while waiting for our food a family of four seated behind us already had their menus and decided on what they wanted and still no one had come over to take their order. So over hearing them complain about not getting service yet my mother once again flaged down Stacy. (You should know that all four waitresses and the cook are standing back behind the bar at this time talking) so we asked for more napkins and let her know that the table behind us was waiting to be waited on. Stacy turned around went back to the group where they were standing and still no one helped the table behind us. So when the mother overheard a waitress in the back make a comment saying "oh they're just impatient to be waited on", the family got up and left, saying to a waitress" we're just going to go somewhere else since we're an inconvenience" It's at that point we heard Stacey saying to the other waitresses "I wasn't back here talking I was making a salad oh and this is all the more well-done her potatoes are going to be so I hope she likes it" referring to my mother's potatoes which were supposed to be well done sliced grill fried potatoes and what she got looked like mashed up baked potatoes "see picture" when she deliver it to the table she informed us the cook said this is all the more it can be done unless we wanted to wait 40 minutes for it to cook longer, she then ask my mom if she wanted it deep fried and as my mom was deciding if she wanted to have it deep fried Stacy says "okay then" and walks away slapping our bill on the table . Still not getting our napkins I decide to get the bundles of silverware on the neighboring tables to use those napkins. As Stacy passed back by my mother again for the second time now asked for ketchup, to which we got no acknowledgement but she walked back by and set it down and said nothing and an additional two more time she walked by without making eye contact or saying anything to us, not even to ask if our meal is okay. As we finished our meal and I picked up the ticket I noticed she'd seen me and then stated to her co-workers I need a cigarette I'm stressed I'm going out if you have any problems let me know and left her co-worker to...
Read moreSitting here, honestly nervous to eat what was placed in front of me. We waited over 20 minutes to be seated- now I understand being short staffed and you can only clear tables as fast as you can. What made us mad was that we waited in line with everyone else, but when we were next to be seated, a LOUD, BOISTEROUS, group of kids/teens walked in. They were seated IMMEDIATELY. A table was cleared off for them as soon as they walked in. Which, isn't fair, but whatever. We were finally seated in a sticky dirty booth when our waitress came over, coughed on us without covering her mouth, and when we asked how to get our food order in as fast as possible it was like we had completely insulted her. We were in a rush. We had already been there for 40 minutes.
Finally, we put our orders in.
We're waiting. And waiting. And waiting.
25 minutes go by, our waitress is completely ignoring us at this point.
45 more minutes GONE.
Tables seated after we were have already finished their meals and their tables are being cleaned as we're still sitting there waiting for our food AND DRINKS to come to the table.
Finally- an hour and fifteen minutes after we were seated (almost 2 hours after arriving at the restaurant), our food arrives.
It smells like dirty dishwater, like our plates had been touched with dirty rags, my eggs had a puddle of water under them, and everything was ice cold.
I've worked in food service before, specifically breakfast, I know it can get backed up, but this was just absolutely ridiculous.
My family and I have such great memories about coming here- guess we'll have to find somewhere else for special breakfast...
Read moreLike many, my visit to Grove City (PA...not to be confused with OH!) centered around moving my daughter into Grove City College. My son also went to GCC (class of '16), so the Main Street Diner is well known to us from those days, and after moving her in, we looked forward to heading to the diner for lunch.
While Covid has hit the restaurant industry hard, I was pleased (and relieved) to see that the diner was still going strong. The diner is a family run business, with its roots in a strong Greek history. I found this out a few years back when I had the opportunity to talk to the owner.
While the main menu is strong with traditional American cuisine, there are some great Greek options available for those looking for something little different.
Service was as great as I remembered from my last visit in 2016, and the food just as good as well. In addition to the "college crowd", you will find many locals there...always a sign that the good and service is good!
Prices are also very reasonable, so you won't break the bank with a larger group. If you are like me, and prefer a local place over a chain restaurant or fast food, the Main Street Diner is place to go should you find yourself...
