Where do I start? We drove two and a half hours to an appointment here in Grove Oklahoma. While here we thought we would get a bite to eat. By the reviews we thought this might be a good place to stop. But boy were we wrong. When we sat down there was a man sitting in a booth nearby. A man come from somewhere behind us and set down in that booth and begin talking to this man. Then another couple was leaving the restaurant and the man that had come out and sit down turned to her and said I'm sorry that your chicken. That should have been a red flag for us. That man that was sitting there talking and and apologizing for the chicken was the owner of the establishment.
I gave it a one-star because of the waitress she was actually very nice. However, the entire time we sat there we heard the owner of the restaurant screaming at an employee all we heard was him telling them to shut up stop talking shut up over and over again. His voice was very loud so it could be heard in the entire restaurant. He continue this chastising for the entire 45 minutes we were there. Now I understand that sometimes employees don't quite do the tasks that they're supposed to do 100% but if that's the case retrain them or if they can't do the job then it's time to let them go. I feel that this man was very unprofessional and it made us feel very uncomfortable sitting there in the dining room listening to him scream at an employee and curse at him. I could not pass up the opportunity it bothered me so much I had to ask to talk to him. When I went to the cash register to pay our tab, I told the woman that we were very uncomfortable having to sit there and listen to that man screaming at employees. She told me I'm so sorry man he does this all the time. She said we've told him he needs to not be so loud but he doesn't listen. I told her that I would like to speak with him because I would like to let him know how uncomfortable we were. She walked over to the window and she quietly told him that someone wanted to talk to him. Now I could not hear her voice as she was telling him that I just knew that's what she was saying. So a conversation can go on that others cannot hear. She apparently got her point across to him because he shortly thereafter come out and stood at the counter where I was. I told him how unprofessional I thought he was to stand there and scream at an employee and allow all of the diners in the place to hear his tantrum. He proceeded to tell me how he has told this guy to leave in and he's off the clock and yada yada yada. I mentioned to him if you want somebody to leave that will not willingly leave then you need to call a police officer and have them assist you. He said he had his phone in his hand just as she was telling him that I wanted to speak with him. That was not true because he was yelling still at that employee at the window that I could see him through. I told him if his employee was not up to the task then he needed to let him go instead of standing there and screaming at him and telling him to shut up and stop talking and cursing at him. It's very frustrating to spend that kind of money on on a lunch and have to listen to the garbage. I would not recommend this...
Read moreIt wasn't a great experience. I ordered 2 breaded fried pork chops, baked potato, salad and cottage cheese and my husband had the hamburger steak, fries and onion rings. The onion rings were fresh, not frozen and we're good. My salad, which she made from the salad bar consisted of lettuce, a couple diced tomatoe pieces and a very very small amount of cheese and ranch dressing which she Laddled onto it. The salad was good, cottage cheese was good. Heard our waitress in the back saying, they wanted breaded I wrote it plainly on there. So....she comes out with ONE grilled pork chop and explained that it costed more but she was only gonna charge me for what I ordered and it was much better anyway. I said it was fine. I cut into the thick pork chop and it was still pink...pinkish grey..not good and not done. I sent it back to be cooked a little longer, the cook brings it back out to me and said "sorry bout that". So I again cut into it, still not fully done. I tried a bite anyway. Tasted rotten. Made my husband taste it, he said it's done babe, it's good. I push it to the side and I'm done. I notice 5 minutes later this big hunk of chewed up meat over to the side of his plate. He had not swallowed the pork chop he said was good and was done. Lol...when our waitress came to clear our table and saw that I had not eaten the pork chop, she did not acknowledge it or offer to adjust our check. All that being said, we DID arrive 30 minutes before close and we were starving. And they were gracious about the time being so close to closing time. We were visiting Grove, OK for the weekend and will be back in 3 Weekes for the week. We will not be visiting Drakes...
Read morePeople boasting that Drakes is the best breakfast in town. We didn't like it. The hashbrowns were cold and have a sour taste, like they never clean the grill. Eggs and bacon were good. Pancake was cold and stiff, wouldn't even melt the butter. The hot syrup melted the butter and softened the stiff pancake. Definitely doesn't melt in your mouth. Don't know where they get their gravy, but that's the grossest looking gravy. It had something unidentifiable that may have been chicken? And it's tanish brown. We never tried it, because it looked yucky. Definitely not white, delicious sausage gravy that the rest of the country uses on biscuits and gravy. Biscuits appeared to be the ones you buy in bulk from Sam's Club. Not homemade. I'm guessing maybe the gravy came from a can and reheated? I don't know, but we won't go back there. Service was ok. Prices were ok. Maybe the rest of the menu is good, but the breakfast wasn't. Yeah, scrolling through the pics, it appears the gravy is the same gravy as on the chicken fried steak. Maybe it...
