Been here many times, had a review up when it was Alexander’s years ago, and after sampling the new menus a few times, I’ve come to the conclusion that it’s not the food, it’s the menu. On a side note service was awesome. They have sourced great ingredients, but somehow have found a way to combine them in the worst way possible. For starters, there are zero items to draw comfort from. The ones people may commonly be familiar with, are paired with sides that do not complement the main components. It’s an out of the box experience no one asked for, and outside of that box is the wastelands of a horror movie. Seasoning is lackluster, no salt and pepper on the table to give a saving grace, and there’s no one piece of the dish that shines. Now for the specifics. Our table ordered from their new spring menu. We had the Smoked Trout Chowder, a salad, NY Steak, the Roast Chicken, Seared fish of some kind, coconut cream pie, and tiramisu. Chowder was good, best thing on the menu I’ve tried. The salad existed, no real flavor in the dressing. The NY steaks were extremely undercooked from the mid-rare that was asked for. The potatoes pavé, chard, and chimichurri were all lacking in seasoning by miles. The chimichurri was also incredibly stringy. The chicken was cooked perfectly and seasoned well, however the sides fell flat and add nothing to the dish. The fish and rice were once again unseasoned, and severely lackluster in any form of flavor. The tiramisu was decent, the coconut cream pie, should have just been a cream pie with a hint of coconut. If I had any recommendations on what to get there for dinner, it would probably be a reservation in Jenner because that would be your next closest restaurant. Oh and as a final note, the water glasses look like candle holders and are a complete joke. I’ll return when they get an actual chef again, and if the current head chef(s) is reading this; you have the tools, you’ve been provided a renewed kitchen, you have the access to the best ingredients, do better. I will update...
Read moreWe had the most shocking experience at timber Cove today. We booked a dinner reservation online and upon arrival found out there was a private event happening. First of all We were made to feel like it was our fault we had booked the reservation through their 3rd party app, clearly someone in their end didnt black out the date. This was after driving 45 minutes up the coast with our four year-old and 96-year-old grandmother. Mistakes happen, and fortunately it was still early enough in the day, oh well. Now the event was not even happening, staff was still setting up chairs and there was no active party or guests anywhere. I asked if I could use the restroom before we drove 45 minutes back down the coast. I’m very clearly pregnant and needed to pee! I was told no that I could not, and that I needed to vacate the premises immediately because there was a private event! An event that was not happening anywhere in the area we were!. I was fairly shocked by this answer. I asked to talk to the manager and was told I was talking to the manager. This made me even more shocked! Clearly, there was a restroom somewhere on the entire property I could’ve used. But instead, she told me she would escort me off the property and then watched me waddle all the way back to my car. I guess she wanted me to loose my bladder in the parking lot? Upper management/and the owner of the establishment should be deeply ashamed of how their manager treated me. We’ve been coming here every year for 10 years when we come to visit our family and sadly this will absolutely be the last time we...
Read moreWe have stayed at Timber Cove a few times now and the restored midcentury mod hotel feels like high end glamping and the staff is amazingly friendly/helpful.
We stayed for my husband’s birthday last year and had a dog-friendly suite. I coordinated ahead of time to do a private room for a special birthday meal. For the special meal they allowed me to also bring in some special wine. The chef put together some offerings for us for the dinner and coursed it out.
This year we were back for Thanksgiving. We ended up staying coincidently in the same exact suite, and Coast Kitchen had a special Thanksgiving menu. The food was good on our last visit but it was even better this time around. The chef has elevated the food experience a bit and it shows. I attached shots of our food from the dinner and the excellent Pinot we enjoyed from their wine offerings. I also included shots of the burger and chicken sandwich we had for a lunch one of the weekend days in the lobby / lounge area.
The server we had for both of our dinners there was outstanding. She was attentive, made great recommendations, and was just the right mix of funny and professional. I can’t remember her name but she’s from Sea Ranch.
Overall, if you are up along the Jenner to Sea Ranch area, this should be one of your dinning stops for a super casual lunch in the lounge or dinner in the...
