The atmosphere is gorgeous... The location is serene and the interior is actually pretty nice I love the movie photos on the wall... Unfortunately the aesthetics are where the positive experience ends for me. At 519 I ordered 2 salads and an order of mozzarella sticks. I was told 20 min but it would prob be sooner because it's salads... I got there at about 540 but waited to go in until 545 to be safe. (I suffer from PTSD and don't like crowds but that's not on the restaurant) When I got there I was charged 46 dollars and change and paid but was not given a receipt. Ellen went to get my order. She came back and it wasn't there. She made the trip two more times over the next 20 min. On the third trip she came and asked me to confirm my order... I told her again what it was and she went back out. She came back a few min later to say it's just being made NOW. It was 620. I waited another almost fifteen minutes. When Ellen came back I was polite but asked what was going on... She told me it was her first day back after a month and then showed me a receipt... It showed that my order was placed at 519 but was not put in until 603... Which makes no sense because I had already paid and Ellen had gone searching for it multiple times by then but ok... So I asked for a receipt and Ellen told me she couldn't get me one.
She did not offer any resolution... Did not offer anything if we came in future... Let me be clear I never once asked because I'm not a mooch but it's the right thing to do as a business when something like this occurs. Its just as well as I will never go there again.
The worst of all of this was that the mozzarella sticks were COLD and hard as a rock as if they'd been sitting for ages and I'm attaching pictures of the salads I paid $40 for... The caprese and grilled chicken Cesar... If I knew someone was waiting this long... Standing for 40 min at the reception desk... I'd make sure it looked good and the one hot item was actually warm.
I feel like a jerk as I really do get it when there's a busy night and I don't like negative reviews but this was horrible customer service that could have been...
Read moreLocal Lakeview Hidden Gem! I was recently on a scenic tour around twin lakes in Halifax, when I noticed the beautiful lakeview establishment 550 Tavern and Event Venue. It happened to be a rainy day outside, but inside we were greeted with a very warm welcoming local staff. The hostess, grade A+ for her genuine hospitality. The wait staff were prompt attentive knew the menu and made wonderful suggestions. The menu had wonderful mix of veggie, NE seafood, salads, chicken, and beef options together with traditional pub tavern favorites i.e. pizza, wings burgers and panini's. The Tavern had a specials menu and Prime Rib is on it Thursday to Saturday, I will return with friends for that! In addition, they have a wonderful breakfast menu Wen-Sun. I can say I will be back to try it. The menu is fantastic. The 505 Tavern is attached to a venue event space, no doubt the food and the serenity of the lake atmosphere is great. On this visit we tried the NE Clam chowder made on premise, garlic aioli chicken wings and a classic cheeseburger. All food was hot, generous portions and tasted excellent. The Tavern had a main dining area, outdoor lakeside patio and large bar area. The clientele were a mix of families with children, young couples and older couples. If you want to catch a game, ample tv's were...
Read moreThe new kid on the block in Halifax. The 550 Tavern was crowded and the noise level was pretty high. That being said we started with an appetizer of jumbo wings in buffalo sauce. The wings were jumbo but hard to eat because they are whole wings, (drumette, wing and tip). We left a lot of meat on the bones due to the eating difficulty. The rub on the wings was good, the buffalo sauce was perfect. Expect to pay about $2 per wing. We also had the Caprese Salad, I recommend a skip. It was supposed to be tomatoes and mozzarella on top of a bed of greens. Let me tell you, this was a green salad with a few chopped tomato pieces, the kind you would expect on an Italian sub and the mozzarella, what there was of it, was also diced really small. Once you toss the salad you will need a pair of readers to find the tomato and mozzarella. The main courses were a different experience altogether. We ordered the Jack Daniels Turkey Tips and the Prime Rib, neither disappointed. The tips were tender and juicy, mind you how difficult it is to cook them due to the lack of fat. The Prime Rib was a beautiful piece of steak with the right mix of fat to meat. The au jus was delicious and the real mashed potatoes were excellent. Two drinks and a tea brought the bill to a...
