I have had Clown Burger twice now and basing this review on both visits. I felt I should give it a second try because I felt my first visit had gone unimpressed.
With that said, on my first visit, I ordered a double patty burger with cheese meal. I noticed that the french fries had we out in a grey tray on a chair, while sat a similar tray with lettuce. I kind of got grossed out a little, but looked past it because it had such good reviews. When my order was ready, I eagerly picked it up. The soda is served in cans, which I particularly don't care for. I'd rather have a fountain soda, but no issue. The meal cost me a little of 9 bucks if memory serves me correct.
I got it back to work and it looked great. The patties are thinner than what you would get at the fast food chains, so if you like em big, I suggest you stack patties. At first bite, the wilted lettuce overwhelmed the taste of the burger. It wasn't terrible, but I was expecting the amazing taste that the reviews mentioned. The fries to me were very...very soggy. They were barely salted and just really messy. I ate a few and ended up tossing them.
On my second visit, on 12/4/2020, I decided to give it another try because it is such a neighborhood staple.
In I go. Met by a very sweet woman at the counter. I remembered the thinner patties, so I decided to go with a triple patty with cheese. The woman asked if I wanted cheese on all three patties, and I was met with an eager, "YES please". I contemplated not getting lettuce, but that wouldn't be a good review. So, I got it with mustard, mayo and lettuce. I did not get the fries because I'm waiting on my third visit. I just got the Bburger for 7 bucks. Not bad at all for a triple.
I get it back to work and unwrap it. The lettuce actually looked good, and crisp. I take a bite, and holy cow! The meat tasted amazing. It was incredible, especially with the cheese. The lettuce was crispy and did not leave a tingly sensation on my tongue. This definitely will have me coming back.
I removed one star because it is a cash only business. No atm machine or one around that I can think of. In this day and age, its a small inconvenience because most of us don't carry cash. This is why I don't come her as often as I'd like.
In all, I would definitely recommend this small business. Its been serving its community for years, and the food is definitely great...
Read moreThis is a realistic review. It's a dingy old school dive burger joint. It has a down home feel, somewhere you might have gone to as a kid to get lunch as a treat that's wasn't McDonald's. I'm not originally from the area but it reminds me of a few childhood places I ate in my hometown that no longer exist. If you're expecting the " best burger in New York" ( HIMYM reference) you will be disappointed. The burgers are thin and stacking patties is what they do so 3+ patties if you have a bigger appetite wouldn't be uncommon. Don't expect red Robin style thick or heavily seasoned. The 3-4 patty one isn't bad and fairly filling for me and I'm a bigger guy that can eat. It's a solid burger, but people seem to have gotten used to newer methods of prep.
The fries are lacking unfortunately. They're greasy and taste over cooked. Grilled cheese isn't bad either.
They used to be cash only but have not gotten a card reader. People complaining obviously don't know about fees, subscriptions and seem to worship the IRS when it comes to card. There is an ATM and yes there will be fees that are a bit more. Any non immediately bank affiliated ATM will have higher fees Joe T Garcia is the same way.
It's not very big so if it's busy don't expect to be able to sit down and eat. Try to avoid rush hour time as it's a limited staff 2-4 people. I think the most I've seen is 3. So you still be in for a wait given size of staff, size of grill, and general cooking and order time. That's just the nature of business. Have realistic expectations in this world of instant...
Read moreThe first thing I notice as I walk in to Clown Burger in Haltom City is the clientele. Sure, there's the occasional fat guy like me who loves a good burger but the majority of the cutomers sitting around me are retired or retiring. People who have enjoyed the same sandwiches from this restaurant for years or decades. It's a testament to the quality of a restaurant to maintain a customer base for so long.
The next thing to notice is the abundance of Elvis memorabilia and the spots of personal pride in their longevity. They hve been here for 60 years as of this writing and they haven't accepted credit or debit the entire time. You also see the pictures of the family begibd the restaurant and the history of how the skills and recipes are passed from one generation to the next.
I ordered "The Kitchen Sink" because it offered a sample of everything they could put on a burger, including jalapeños and chili. The food is cooked in plain view and I can assure you from the taste, the ingredients are exactly what you hope for. Fresh beef, smashed against the grill but not so much that it lose th fat. Delicious chili that sticks to eveyhing and crisp bacon that doesn't knock your teeth out. This is everything a burger has been since the 1960's in one and it's awe inspiring.
Without hesitation, I will be returning for more but next time I'll tone it down because the only down-side to this burger is the food coma it puts you in afterward.
