Im Giving 5 stars , under the conditions of pandemic etc..it was pouring rain all day today and we got the chance to be inside.. we were seated at a table next to the empty bar, at first my wife doesnt much like that, but i enjoyed listening to the banter of the next 2 couples that came in and sat at the bar.. there was another couple and their son seated about 8 feet away.. Our waitress Fallon seemed at first very mild mannered and quiet, she took our drink order and came back promptly , then returned shortly and received our order without writing anything down.. the warm bread on a wooden cutting board with butter and a basket of garlic bread came from another server, all employees donned masks, and the appetizers started, my wifes fried mozzarella was done perfectly crisp and on the darker side.. delicious, then my scallops wrapped in bacon.. 2 sticks with 3 each .. so 6 small scallops with a sauce i have not identified yet , but was tangy and the scallops melted in my mouth..delicious..they could have been bigger..but they were very satisfying.. my chicken tortellini soup was wonderful.. the veal parm was delicious , but could have been thicker, just not pounded as thin would have been better ..but very good anyway.. 2 large meatballs on the side were perfect, our sides of spaghetti, also perfect. My wifes chicken parm, same as the veal, could have been a little less pounded.. but other wise very good.. we are so pleased that our server was on point, not annoying but SPOT ON! Everytime to clear our plates and ask if anything was needed..frankly i was very impressed with her, i had doubts in beginning.. She was flawless and i told her so.. I believe its important to let your servers know , it keeps them on their toes if they know it.. Morale is everything for these people.. Now some would feel the meal was a bit more then average or even say average.. after what we been going through for last 7 months of no restaurants, i feel that we really needed this and the setting and food was outstanding.. this day was extra special for me and my wife, her especially, 2 years exactly the day she received a new kidney and pancreas.. THANK YOU Fallon , and JOES MAPLEWOOD FOR MAKING IT JUST WHAT WE NEEDED TODAY... TomO! & Tracy ...
Read moreAll I can say is… this place is phenomenal! We ate here on a Sunday and arrived when they opened at 1pm. It’s a great sign that they were half full by 1:15 and had a full house by 2pm.
There isn’t one thing that was disappointing. The restaurant itself is cute and warmly decorated. Our server Sarah was on point from beginning to end. She greeted us right way and took our drink order. She also gave several good recommendations to our menu questions. Each table is served a loaf of fresh, warm Italian bread, homemade garlic bread and family style salad with their own vinaigrette. Both types of bread were fantastic! The garlic bread is exceptional. We started with the bacon wrapped scallops. The bacon was crisp and cooked perfectly. It wasn’t fatty or soggy. It was really perfect! Scallops were tender and the wasabi dipping sauce had just enough kick. My entrée was the 18 oz. cowboy ribeye, medium rare with sautéed spinach and broccoli rabe and garlic. The steak was superb, cooked perfectly and very tender. My veggies were excellent. Both bright green so I am assuming they got them from a local farm. They were both in a light broth with a little oil. Broccoli rabe had a touch of red pepper flakes so they had a kick.
My husband had the menu special. Twin lobster tails with crab meat stuffing and their homemade pasta AND homemade sauce. He raved about everything. The lobster was tender and the stuffing was mostly lump crabmeat. However, he is still talking about the pasta. I know this phrase is over used but… he was blown away. Then Sarah came back with another round of bread! Needless to say we were stuffed when we left and the price was absolutely more than reasonable.
We decided that EVERY time we go to Atlantic City we will, without a doubt, stop at Joe’s for...
