Smuttynose Brewing Company in Hampton, NH for a couple pints of some refreshing New England goodness. I've been multiple times, but according to my Untappd not since May of 2022. I know there has been a good amount of changes in the beer world since they first opened in 1994, but for a OG before the wild haze craze of the late 2010's, they made it through unscathed. I know there was a recent merger with Harpoon & the company that owns them & at the taproom there was beer from multiple places under the same umbrella. They had Wachusett Brewing Company beers & Five Boroughs Brewing Co. beers on tap as well, but I stuck to all Smuttynose beer since that's why I was here. 🍻🍻🔥💪
The flight I scooped had three new beers to me & one I'd had in the past, but wanted to revisit. My first taster was the WHOLE LOTTA HAZE IPA that was good, but nothing mind blowing for a New England hazy. The second taster was the BLACKBERRY SOUR that I thought was delicious & a above average Berliner Weisse. My third was the PEACHES AND CREAM Fruited Sour, that again was above average, these guys are definitely doing something right sour wise. My fourth taster was the OLD BROWN DOG ALE Brown Ale that is a staple of New Hampshire & beyond. It was one of if not the first brown ales I had ever tried way back years ago. Still held up for sure as a brown, but I've had better browns over the year's now. I finished my trip with a pint of the IMPERIAL WHOLE LOTTA HAZE DIPA that was better than its younger sibling I had in the flight & the better IPA out of the two in my opinion. 🍻🍻☘✌
The taproom is decently sized with a good amount of different styles from three different breweries, at least on my trip. The seating options here include tables & hightops with outdoor seating during warmer weather. A fridge in the dining room & merchandise area with plenty of beer to go. There is a restaurant next door to the brewery & taproom, but I have unfortunately never been. I know Harpoon Brewery is opening up a big spot in Manchester, NH soon so I'm excited to see what that is about & if Smuttynose beer will be offered there. I enjoyed my trip back here after a few years & I'm sure I'll be back in a few more. 🍻🍻🔥☘✌♥️🍺
BEERGASM RATING - 69/99 THOSE SOURS WERE ON POINT FOR SURE. VERY NICE, HOW MUCH?! 🍻🍻🍻🔥🔥🍆💦💦☘✌♥️🍺

Read moreVery good brewing company. The staff was all friendly and knew a lot about the product they were selling. This location has free tours which introduces the process on how they make the beer, the history behind Smuttynose brewing company, and the story behind their logo. The tasting room is small, but everything is very sanitary. They have a small merchandise room where you can also purchase beer to take with you. There is an outdoor area where dogs are invited and they host several events. It’s hard to believe that this location is only an hour away from Boston. Across the tasting room is the restaurant where my peps and I really enjoyed their food! The customer service was great, we did not wait long at all for a table, and our waitress continued to check on us. Our glasses were always full (beer or water), and we were presented with a smile each visit. They do have some vegetarian options, so that is a big plus on my books. The parking lot is kind of small, but we did not have a problem finding parking. They even have a separate motorcycle section with more than enough room to fit a small group of riders. I recommend this place, drink...
Read morePros and cons at Smuttynose. Pros are the food is pretty good, the live music is always awesome, we love the outdoor area, and the walk up bar is very convenient. Drinks are good.
The cons are the executional elements. Crazy long wait times. People who sit at the limited outdoor tables for literally hours after they’re finished eating and not moving for new diners (to listen to the bands, so I get it but at some point you gotta move or be asked to move). Staff is mega hit or miss. We’ve had to go to the upper picnic tables a few times after hours long waits for tables and hungry toddlers. We’ve had staff who were amazing and let our kids get a basket of fries up there because it was way past their dinner time, and we’ve had staff flip out when asked and say if we even tried to bring food up there we’d be escorted out and not be allowed to return. Not even food for adults! Just some fries for 3 year olds. I mean hey, rules are rules but the being banned threat was excessive.
So overall Smuttynose is a good spot during off times or if you’re not trying to had dinner on...
