Historic Hanoverville Roadhouse — Restaurant in Hanover Township

I’m sad to be leaving a low score for a local restaurant, believe me. I’m not scoring it 2 stars because of the food (my wife and both enjoyed our prime rib). Nor am I scoring it so low for service (Pam was attentive), nor is it a problem with the atmosphere: the current owner has made obvious progress to improve it, and we’ve been here MANY times over the past 19 years.

So what’s the problem?

The restaurant adds a fee to your receipt without disclosing this fee anyplace in advance. It’s called the “Advantage Program” (refer to the picture I attached). It’s approximately $5 bucks.

When I asked our server about it, she shrugged & said “oh, it’s our credit card fee”.

Look: businesses need to be profitable. I get that & want them to thrive. But an undisclosed fee is just sneaky, and underhanded.

And I hate sneaky. Hate it.

So, my advice to ownership?

1.) Disclose the fee. I checked your printed menu at the table before I left. Read it front to back. No mention of “Advantage Program”

Or -

2.) Better yet, get rid of the fee: mark your prices up 4%. Offer a 4% discount for bills settled by cash - whatever.

Or -

3.) put a sign somewhere at the front desk so the fee is disclosed without being sly about it.

I had cash on me & would have paid that way if I knew in advance that was an option, by the way. Or not: either way it would have been my choice, not an underhanded money...

WOW!!! This is a great place I almost frequent. Maybe it is the oldest Road House in America. This place opened in 1825 and might be haunted by Friendly Ghosts. Hard to believe this place is almost 200 years old before internal Combustion engines. They did have a hitching post probably back in the day. I would love to see the basement or attic maybe there would be secret treasures of some kind. The best of the best waitresses and gotta love Pam. These waitresses are acrobatic. How often they would come out of the kitchen with a super large diameter tray with ten plates or so and never drop them. I love the Pot Roast and gravy on special nights. I just wished thisd place had BBQ grills in kitchen but the food is amazing. Road House has amazing nostalgia pictures on the wall and friendly customers adds to the ambiance. They have huge skeltons outside and a great decor inside with skeltons playing cards. I have yet to see a customer step up to the piano and play. All in all this place is at the crossroads and has car shows and plenty of parking.I definitely want to take a guided tour of the almost 200 year old Basement. First time here was for lunch today with my mom. I get a decent lunch break but wanted somewhere close to work and my mom wanted to try out someplace new so, I suggested here.

It was a beautiful day to sit outside so, we did. I’m not sure if there was more outside seating but, there were a nice amount of tables in the front where we were. Our server greeted us and told us the specials right away. Even though we ate outside, the inside had a really chic-spooky atmosphere and we loved that!

My mom ordered the fish and chips with the fries well done and I got the turkey avocado panini with fries. I am a fry fanatic and I give these a 10/10. The portions were huge, my mom’s fish was steaming and very juicy. The panini was very big, I took half home. The only thing I wish was that there was a dipping sauce/side for my sandwich. I felt it was just missing a saucy factor but still 10/10.

My mom also got a punch cocktail that was beautiful in color and the beer selection was good. I was in and out in and hour for my lunch. She actually stayed longer to enjoy herself. We will...
