This German restaurant is very small, but very quaint with limited inside seating.
We got there just as it opened, first people there. LOL, the inside and porch seating filled shortly after we arrived... I considered this as a testimate to good meals coming.
There's plenty of seating outside, which looked well maintained, to include limited seating on the porch.
The staff was fabulous, caring, and professional.
Food came in good time, and it was okay; much, much better than other local (Lampasas, Kempner, other Harker Heights) German restaurants.
But, it is not as flavorful as the authentic German food you get from your local Gaste Haus' and even over there, the gravy is very flavorful, does Not Taste of packaged, add water gravies.
The schnitzel (pork) meat and crust were to perfection, but a but more spice could be helpful, although juicy, cooked to perfection they were bland.
I tasted the I tasted the Jaegersnitzel's Pilzsoße (mushroom gravy). It was not flavorful and needed much more Pilze (mushrooms) in the Soße (gravy).
The kartoffelsalat (potato salad) was plain, it and the speck (bacon) could be more flavorful. There is a lack of (German) essig (vinegar), (German) öl (oil), and again, there's no flavor to the speck (bacon).
The Rotkohl (Red Cabbage) was plain, it could be more flavorful, and it was not tart/sweet. There's a lack of (German) essig (vinegar) and apples.
The Gerkensalat (Cucumber Salad); the cream cheese, and dill were perfect blends. But there seemed a lack of (German) essig (vinegar).
I wish that the ingredients match Germany's 🇩🇪 exceptional ingredients. Actually, authentic German products can now be ordered internationally... it's how I obtain my products; German & Italian.
But this is America. You get what you get. Authentic products, although tastier, are more expensive.
We will...
Read moreI personally give this a 5/5 stars because of the atmosphere, the service, and of course, the food. The atmosphere of this little restaurant is humble and welcoming with several items hanging from the wall that remind me of both german ancestry and family. My favorite wall decoration is a bull's skull resting peacefully in front of the door as you walk in. The seats are admittedly hard and tacky, but they help add to the humility of the place and make you feel more at home. The women in charge of service and cooking are also german borne and speak with either their german native tongue or heavily accented English, which, along with their kind motherly like voices, make me feel at home as a highschool student, which brings me to my second point. The service is wonderful with kind waitresses which make you feel like you're in Germany for a little while. As previously stated, they are German borne and speak with a heavy accent which gives the customers a worldly feel. They also have their share of extreme enthusiasm for new customers which never gets old. What's a restaurant without food? A really boring version of speed dating without the date. This restaurants food as absolutely amazing. I personally always get the schnitzel sandwich with the occasional cheese cake; I have a small wallet. The food itself feels like a grandmothers hug and makes me happy every time I eat it. I'd beg to say it's better than my mothers Hispanic cuisine if it wasn't for the fear of my mother one day finding this review. All of this at an affordable price too!!! Altogether, I score a 5/5 stars with 4/5 stars for atmosphere, 5/5 stars for service, and 5/5 stars for the food. I wouldn't hesitate to recommend this place to my friends if many of them didn't live...
Read moreThis is the best German Food I had in a long time, better than Fredericksburg! This Gem is located in Harker Heights Texas and is delicious! Worth the drive. We went hiking at Dana Peak Park along the lake and saw the yellow building with Opa's Schnitzel Hut and of course had to check it out. The friendly waitress explained that the owner makes everything from scratch - from pounding out the meat to making her own bread crumbs for the schnitzel breading. The gravy, the cabbage, the spätzle and more all from scratch. This makes all the difference. I can't wait to go back and have a Bratwurst (homemade). The only thing missing was a tall glass of German Beer. ( B.Y.O.B $1.00 per person). They even had a cute story on the back of the menu about how the owner got started. Best Day Ever! Hiking with my 82 year old mother 6 miles and enjoying an authentic German meal. I know because my mother is German and she knows her German...
