Nice place with great views. They need more seating. Probably should get rid of the couch and put in five double tables.
I get ticked off when restaurants don't put all the prices on the menu, why do we have to guess? I just don't get it.
I'm not a fan of the ordering kiosk. We did it, found a seat, then found a better seat, then got our drinks, then our food, and then we needed another drink...so I then had to get up and wait in line (3 deep) just to order another round. Now my food was cold. Not a deal killer but I just don't understand the concept. You order your food and then you have to hunt for a place to eat it? I don't get it. And what about tips? When I order at a kiosk I don't think I need to tip, but then they do bring you the food, so do I cut the tip in half? It looked like they had plenty of help so they could just do things the normal way...but for some reason it looks like they are overthinking things to the point where they are messing up what could be a nice experience.
The view is nice and the prices reflect it. $18 for a haddock sandwich; a beer is $7 and a house wine will run you $14, which is a bit over the top. The menu listed a Pinot-Grigio so I ordered a house "Pinot" but I got a Pinot-Noir which wasn't even an option according to the menu. Again no prices listed for beer and wine and the specialty drinks, (like the tasty Painkiller and the Kraken) will run about $12-$13 each. For comparison; a similar haddock sandwich on a brioche bun is $12.95 at the Clambake in Scarborough. Maybe their water view isn't quite as good but the sandwich is the same and they have a similar seating arrangement (order and pick up at a window and a boat load more seats), is the sandwich worth $5 more?
The food was good and I liked the bay seasoning on the fries, but it could easily be optional with bay seasoning in a shaker, (like pizza places do it)...jus' sayin'...they gussied up the tarter sauce with something, don't know what but some things should be left alone, mayo, relish, and a little lemon has worked very well for many generations.
Nice friendly staff. Food was decent, but they are confused as a restaurant. Are they a take-out? Or an eat-in? You get disposable utensils and a bag of chips and fight for a seat like it's a take-out joint. But then they do bring you your food and they clean up afterwards (although a quick swipe with a disinfecting wipe didn't really do it for me). I don't know what you would have to do if you wanted a glass of water, or if you dropped a spoon, or needed another napkin...who do you ask, the bartender or do you flag down a random person?
I'm being a bit harsh but you will being paying full sit down prices for a take-out experience...but I guess you can save on the tip? (That seems wrong to me). No website either.
We will try it again if just for the view, and will likely try something different from the menu, but it just seems that they could provide a better experience with more seating and...
Read moreThis restaurant has gone through several changes of ownership over the years, but the new folks seem to be willing to experiment to find something that works for them and for their customers. Rather than having waitresses take your orders, you sit or stand in the central part of the restaurant. Look at the menu and then place your order at a counter. You then pay for your meal and then sit at your table and wait for service. This may not be acceptable to some, but given the staffing issues in the restaurant business, it seems logical that they would experiment with this. It worked for us and the food came in a reasonable amount of time on a Friday evening. The views from the restaurant are beautiful in any kind of weather, and that's one of the reasons to dine here. We had a mix of foods from nachos to fish sandwiches to broiled seafood and everybody seemed reasonably satisfied with their meals. They seemed rather high priced considering there was no table service, but I may be out of touch with restaurant prices. With so many other food and service items haven't gone up considerably in our inflationary economy. The service team are friendly and I hope they have success in their endeavors since this restaurant is close to our home and we have enjoyed eating there...
Read moreSundrenched Seafood, Harpswell Maine, My family and I stopped by and it's quite a different concept than typical Seafood shack, you walk inside and sit down, bar to your left and gentlemen at cashier, you place your order and prepay your meals then you can sit at simple style tables and wait for your food to be served on paper trays and paper plates. Lazy lobster was $65.00 and I was extremely disappointed, it tasted like rubber due to the fact it was overcooked, the side of Street corn had a bit of Tangy chewy kernels this was a miss, side salads mixed with baby bok choy, pickled radish, mix greens was delicious and refreshing with a house style maple balsamic reduction, fried haddock was lightly battered and flaky, fried shrimp platter with fried clams was super fresh. The chowder was tasty but not the best .fried potatoes had a hint of lawreys seasoning or a version of old bay, four dishes and quite pricey of $200 lunch,I understand inflation has hit but this is ridiculous taking advantage of the local residents. I will not be returning, there are more competitive pricing in Harpswell and...
