Mill River Tavern — Restaurant in Hatfield

We went to waxwing first and they were rude and unwelcoming. They told us it would be 20 minutes before they even took our orders so we left.

I called the Grill to ask if we needed reservations because of this. The person on the phone was friendly and polite and they said yes sometimes but right now we have tables open.

Its actually quite beautiful inside. And pumping! Wow, were they busy.

We sat outside, trying to enjoy the last wisps of whatever heat the trails of summer have left us haha

We got our menus and as soon as I saw homemade meatballs, I became very excited.

We only ordered starters as it was almost 7 pm and we were famished.

We got the dusted chicken wings- slightly spicy and perfectly crispy. Fresh crisp vegetables and blue cheese. Fantastic.

The arugula salad was generously sized with a gorgeous vinaigrette perfect parmesan and pancetta! We even had enough meat left to take home to our fur children.

The meatballs. Lord have mercy they were some of the best meatballs I have ever had! And the sauce….wow! Knock your socks off. My italian american friend (first generation!) WOULD approve.

We also got the nachos which were the only “meh” part of the order. Too much cheese not enough veg. But considering how everything else was FABULOUS I really dont care.

Someone told us about The Mill River Tavern, we had to go try it, I can say it’s a hidden gem in Hatfield. We first ordered a drink (great selection of beers) and had to try the pizza, we ordered all hamburger, onions and 1/2 mushrooms. The pizza was great and was out really fast. Later on the waitress came over to us with another pizza. She tells us, we made your first pizza wrong and want to know if you want this one to take home, free? We declined but were very grateful and asked if the other table (retirement party) would like it and they did. Waitress was awesome, super friendly and always checking on us. The best kept secret in Western Ma. A small restaurant with great staff, great food and an amazing bartender named Tad!! Only 10 seats at the bar you need to get there early to get a seat. 45 minutes after open, the bar is full. There are tables that are spacious and a outdoor deck for the warmer weather. The food, the dusted wings were outstanding! We had the Smokin Sausage pizza with red sauce instead of what's offered on the menu. So good, thin crust, fresh ingredients and hot!!
