All of the great reviews are absolutely true. I discovered this place on a website called "Only in Idaho". It's a nationwide site that leads you to interesting places for hiking, food, historical sites and just about anything you can imagine. You just pick the places you like. Idaho and Northern California are on my current list. Anyway, after discovering the web site for "Embers on the Lake", I looked it up and wasn't too sure about the recipes. You see, it's not at all like corporate pizza or even most local stuff. It's the real deal like in Greece, for example. And there are some good local places around but they all seem to be conventional. Finally, a couple of weeks ago, my daughter and I were in Coeur D' Alene, Idaho and decided to give it a try. Let me tell you, I don't think I can eat any other pizza from now on. But before I get to that, let me tell you about the atmosphere. It's almost like Norman Rockwell. It's like stepping into the 1950 or early 60s with all the modern accutements. You almost expect to see a Chevy Bel Air or a Ford Falcon in the parking lot.
We sat on the patio which was still enclosed and had portable fireplaces to keep us warm. In the warmer weather, I guess the patio is open and there is an outside dining area. Of course there is a view of Hauser Lake. The place was packed but the service never lacked anything. We made a couple of ingredient changes and when the kitchen forgot one, they gave us an extra pizza. Okay, I would not expect this all the time but they were absolutely sure. I figured they didn't want to just throw it away. Needless to say, the pizzas are large and I noticed people around us ordering their own pizza apart from their companions. I had a half Greek salad which one could easily share and my daughter had a half Ceaser. I don't know if I can eat any other pizza from now on. I hope they don't plan to go anywhere any time soon. They are only open Thursday thru Saturday from 4 till 9. I even got a facebook notification from a person in Redmond, Oregon just north of Bend, who drives up to Idaho just to go to Embers. That's about a five hour drive. Maybe longer. Embers by the Lake is really worth a try. It's family...
Read moreThis cozy little restaurant tucked away in the trees is more than we expected! Wonderful menu, excellent service and warm country atmosphere makes Embers one of our new favorite places to go! As soon as we walked in we where welcomed with warm hellos and smiles that made us feel like family. We where asked if we want to sit on the porch (outside) or inside. Of course the kids wanted to sit outside. There where heaters around and nice lap blankets to use if we wanted to. NOW for the food! The food was nothing short of amazing. We had some local beer they had on tap and buffalo wings for an appetizer. The wings came out in a small cast iron pan nice hot and fresh with chunky blu cheese dressing. The wings had great flavor and the sauce was cooked onto them in the most satisfying way. They weren't just wings drowning in wing sauce. If you like wings I recommend them. As far as pizza goes there is A LOT of pizzas to choose from. I don't remember the name of the pizza we orderd, but it was perfect from the crust to the cheese even that light honey drizzle they put on top. The pizza was sweet and spicy loaded with toppings making it worth the money. After we enjoyed as much as we could we where given a small to go pizza box that was hand decorated by someone who works at Embers and that made me smile. Our awesome waitress offered to start a fire outside so that our kids could make s'mores! Even though we turned down the nice offer, how cool is it that you can make s'mores at this place?! Pretty cool if you ask me! All in all we loved it and so did our kids. We will be back for family gatherings or just for a date night. Embers is well rounded fun family enviroment that checked off all of our boxes! Thank you Embers by the lake for a...
Read moreI have been to Ember’s several times and always had a great experience up until now. My 12 year old bi-racial son and I went to dine in at embers on July 5th. Very busy night but we were seated within 10 minutes. Our server Olivia rushed through taking our order and did not offer us anything to drink. We then waited for a good 20-25 minutes before I was able to get her attention to order drinks even though she passed our table several times ignoring us. I quickly noticed she did not want to serve us. We sat for 45-50 minutes with no food and watched 3 other tables receive their food and appetizers before us even though we had been seated before them. I finally realized what was going on when I watched Olivia serve food to another table that arrived way after us. My son was the only black person in the entire restaurant and it was clear that we were not welcome. We finally got our food which was served by another server and did not receive our appetizer until we left in a to go box. Our plates were not cleared after we were done until we were leaving. I smiled and was patient through this whole experience and very polite. Inside I felt so upset and sick to my stomach. I wanted to leave but my son and I were starving and I just wanted him to have a good experience at what was once my favorite restaurant. So beyond disappointing and sad to say this is one of many times I have experienced racism...
