Ah yes. yes yes yes. MacDuffy’s Place. The Golden Delicious. No Golden Arches here, but golden hearts and good GOOD friends. I remember it like it was yesterday….
Unk was in town from Cali (land of the crepe) so we balled that Jack clear across the snowy squalls of Vermont to stay with the Man and Woman at the End of the Table. I didn’t scream once! Coach Boone once said you can throw the ball a mile but you can’t pitch it five yards. By way of explanation, the Man at the End of the Table likes movie quotes. My good friend and I had held hands the day before, and he pulled up to MacDuff’s sporting cowboy boots that said to the world “I like Hank and I ain’t afraid to show it.” Old Hank too!
The lunch lady came around and we collectively groaned out beans later, but first coffee [beans]. Good solid brown material. Struth me prue, we were howling and raucous to all be together again! When lunchlady came around for food orders I stared back silently and eventually she moved on. No tears!
Our table surely netted the most beans that day at MacDuffy’s: coffee and baked. When food came around lunchlady had sidekicks help tote all the beans. The Man and Woman Who I Married had visited family in Ireland (land of the windy cliff) and brought back hot sauce that my old man smuggled in. I don’t support smuggling unless it’s down a notch in vermont, but even old Duffbert MacDonoghue would have turned a cheek on this one so good friends could enjoy heat together. Unk almost caused a scene when his fork touched that red material but thankfully he didn’t. If eggy visits your town then chances are higher Unk might move there, but he does NOT like hot on his eggs!
I could see why the toast was special, flavors are high at MacDuff’s Dining Emporium even if you eschew beans. I kicked back from the table and slept during the meal service. The Man at the End of the Table had worn a blue hat; he’s still deciding what hat to wear in Mexico tho.
I had blown up a car with an ice cream truck the night before, so no dessert for us. Then back to The Man and Woman Who I Married’s dogs’ house for more revelry and education on hankies. My boot friend and I knocked back some liquid calories and we headed on down the road and clear across New England back to the shores of Lake Champlain and the monsters within. I had worn Patrick Star shorts.

Read moreUpon entering the dinner I was greeted with a very pleasant welcoming. For a Saturday morning, around 10 a.m. (a busy time imo) the wait was maybe 15 minuets. When a table was available, I was kindly escorted to my seat. The tables were well spaced for covid-19 precautions and very clean. Liz was my waitress and I was met with a warm and courteous greeting. She was very prompt with getting my drinks and always on point when I would like a refill. I really enjoyed their coffee which is freshly ground for each pot. I was very impressed with Liz's service as I watched how she managed serving multiple tables with the same positive attitude and upbeat energy I was given. My meal was brought to me much faster than I expected considering the volume of customers. My food was hot, looked and smelt great, and tasted even better. My French toast was texas style thick, golden on the outside and fluffy on the inside. The buttery rich flavor and the cinnamon and sugar coating made for a delicious experience. The fruit loaded pancakes were fantastic. Just the right amount of crispy on the outside and a tender fluffyness on the inside. I literally could not stop eating them, pushing myself beyond my limit. Also, I ordered their homefries which are wonderfully seasoned and have the right amount of crispiness, and firm yet tender chew. My overall experience was fantastic and the service Liz provided was phenomenal. I would highly recommend Duffy's for anyone's next...
Read moreVery homey classy American breakfast alert 🚨 In search of another special morning meal I have found this hidden gem up in northern Massachusetts and this one is for the books. Lot’s of customers coming and going and the staff running against time, breaking a sweat trying to serve every one. I sat on the bar and there was only one lady cleaning the counter and picking up orders and she’s so sweet, kudos to the management hiring this waitress. I made a special order, house fries with green peppers, scrambled eggs and bacon, lots of it… it came with a delicious toast and butter. I also ordered 2 pancakes but the waitress alerted me “I think it might be too much for you, they’re big pancakes. Maybe one?” So I listened, and she was right, it would have been too much, even though they were delicious! I also made sure to order pure maple, for $3 extra, but always worth it in my opinion. Anywho, great meal,...
