Read moreIt's unfortunate that I feel I have to give this place a 1 star. This review is based on an interaction I had with one employee. I wish I had caught her name, but I was too distracted by looking at her very unfriendly, angry looking face. This employee, this young woman, was just plain rude. If I had not had this interaction with her, I would have given 5 stars.
The food was so good and I had 2 very kind employees who helped me, the cashier, a younger female and young man who was servicing dine in customers.
My food did not come out as I ordered it. I didn't make a big deal, but I did go back in and ask for my side sauce, which I ordered. This woman came from the back and asked me, "You wanted sauce on the side?" I said yes, and that I also ordered 2 of my 3 burgers plain with no veggies. She got so upset and sad, "Yeah, well she never do um right that's why it's wrong." Then stormed off. I was shocked by her terrible customer service. Not only was she out of line for speaking to me like that, but I came in very respectfully, but her face was so unpleasant. It was an uncomfortable experience for me. The young man came out and gave me 3 sauces...
Read moreThis is the clearest sign that Waimanalo is gentrifying. Kalapawai is a Kailua institution. There is the original restaurant at the southern entrance to the town and then the beachside vending place that is only half as good but fills an important niche. The Waimanolo restaurant is new, and it picks up the good tradition of its Kailua counterpart. Sometimes, as in the case of the Bruschetta, it surpasses all expectations. Another plus is that it is less crowded and the staff hence less overworked: they are very friendly. Especially on a weekend, I recommend to skip Kailua Beach Park, head out here to Waimanolo, and then when you have exhausted yourself on the beach, replenish yourself at this Cafe. Oahu has lost many of its charming venues. This is one of the few new pearls that I hope will stay true to its spirit...
