Bottom line, I like this restaurant, I'm glad it's here, and I plan to keep going back and supporting this tasty restaurant with gorgeous views. Here are more details in order to provide a fair review though: Visit One : Date night with husband , loved our table, server was relaxed, very knowledgeable and friendly. She was able to take great and attentive care of us without being pushy or invasive. Great food (fish and chips for me, bacon burger for my husband) good cocktails, I enjoyed myself and I loved the location of our table so much I found out the number and made a reservation for later that same week since I was doing a girls night with two friends. The hostess was kind and said while she couldn't guarantee that exact table the restaurant would do their best. Fair enough, I totally understood and was happy.
2nd Visit: I spoke with the restaurant enroute to the reservation, reconfirmed everything and mentioned the table number, they said it was being held for me. Great! I show up at the restaurant, hostess takes me to the lanai, and every table is empty EXCEPT the table I requested. 2 women are literally being seated at is as I'm walking in. Well hmmmmm. Ok, no big deal, lots of great tables, just kind of a head scratcher, moving on. My friends and I sat down, our server was friendly but very green - seemed a bit nervous with his service and food and drink knowledge. I asked him what the happy hour white wine was that evening and he said a cabernet (🤦). He didn't seem to know about the meals (i.e. what fish is in the fish and chips tonight) , etc. etc. But he was very friendly and we are all Kona people and were easy going about it. We were there for quite a long time, we kept wanting to order more drinks but he wouldn't check on us. My friend's second glass of wine didn't make it to her until after we were done eating and after asking him twice. I had ordered a beer before we ordered our food, I didn't get that until much later in the meal and had to remind him. Salad dressing wasn't brought out waters weren't refilled, etc. I'd had such seamless service the first visit it was disappointing but overall we still had a lovely time and the food was good. We would have purchased more things had he come around more often but oh well...
3rd visit: Group of 9, kids and adults, no reservations, was totally easy going, quick and flawless. Order a beer, moments later you have a beer.
SO - I'm planning to keep going to this restaurant..wondering if actually taking the time to make a reservation is what jinxed it the first time lol.
If you haven't gone yet, the Ulu (breadfruit) fries are delicious and may be a new experience for some. Great beers on tap (including Kona Bres Hula Hefeweizen which you don't see outside food the brewery that often) and decent selection of wine (ok, wino moment - can every restaurant in Kona stop offering Matua Sauvignon Blanc, there are so many great and affordable Sauv Blancs and Pinot Grigios out there, don't default to something that we all pick up at costco every week! How about Mezzacorona Pinot Griogio, or William Hill Sauvignon Blanc or even Guernoc!). Ok,...
Read moreMy husband and I were checking out beach parks and we came to MagicSands. I was pretty hungry so we were also looking out for places to eat, and we came across Magics Beach Grill. I wanted to check it out since it had an ocean view!
We had to wait for 10 minutes to be seated even though there were many empty tables. Everyone was so busy. We were honestly about to leave, but we got called exactly then and we were seated at a very beautiful place with a gorgeous view! I was hooked right there.
Then Angelina came by with the menu and she was so kind to explain all vegetarian dishes available! While the menu does not look like there are many options for vegetarians, it is customizable! She gave us recommendations, and as we didn’t have preferences, we took her recommendations, and boy are we glad! Thank you Angelina, for the recommendations! We had the most amazing lunch!
We had ordered Ulu fries and Banging Brussels from the Happy Hour Menu. The happy hour menu had a lot of the same options but smaller portions. We opted for the smaller ones so we could try out other dishes too. We also ordered the fresh farmers salad!
I also wanted a sweet but salty drink and Angelina suggested a customizable drink and she also said she could change it if I didn’t like it! I didn’t have to take her up for it because I loved the drink!
I assume it may have been more expensive if we had chosen main courses instead of appetizers and salads. But our bill came under 40$ and we were shocked! That also may have been because we opted for Happy Hour! So if you’re looking for a somewhat budgeted lunch with a view, try to come here during Happy Hours! Amazing prices, view, Service AND FOOD! Can’t get better than that! I’ll definitely recommend this place to anyone and you can’t go wrong!
I’ve also shared pictures of the view...
Read more05/04/2025 (Sun) We had made a reservation at just the right time to enjoy the sunset, but unfortunately, it was cloudy and we couldn’t see the sun setting over the ocean. Still, the soft light peeking through the clouds and the glow of the torches being lit created a truly beautiful and memorable atmosphere. Even though the ocean itself was blocked from our seats by a low wall, the beachside ambiance was absolutely fantastic. We sat outside and fully enjoyed the setting.🌇🌊 We ordered the Ola IPA ($10), Yuzu Ranch Water ($16), Ahi Poke Tower ($22), Magic’s Famous Ono Fish & Chips ($34), and the Cajun Shrimp Pasta ($34). The Yuzu Ranch Water didn’t really taste like yuzu and felt a bit too strong for me, so I ended up switching to a mocktail — the Keiki Tai ($9) — which was very refreshing. My husband wanted to order a second beer, but our server never came back to check in, so he didn’t get the chance. As a result, I offered him my drink instead.🍸🍺 The Ahi Poke Tower, while tasty, didn’t really live up to its name in terms of presentation — it wasn’t much of a "tower," which was a bit disappointing. The Fish & Chips were on the thin side, but nice and crispy with a tasty dipping sauce. The pasta came with several large shrimp and was satisfying, though I personally prefer spaghetti-type noodles that hold onto the sauce a bit more. One minor distraction — and I hesitate to even mention this — we did notice a strong sweat odor from one of the staff members each time they passed by. We understand they were working hard, but it did slightly affect our comfort. That said, the wonderful setting made up for the small inconveniences. All in all, we had a fun, memorable dinner in a truly...
