🌺DAY 2 of Everything we ate in O’ahu, Hawaii What’s your favorite traditional Hawaiian dish? Even though the 10-hour Island tour left us feeling tired, we were determined to experience the rich and diverse flavors of traditional Hawaiian cuisine. Our visit to Helena’s was a highlight, where we discovered two delectable dishes - poi, a sweet and tangy steamed taro root paste that can be enjoyed as a side dish or dipping sauce, and haupia, a refreshing coconut pudding that makes for a delightful dessert. If you’re looking for an authentic Hawaiian culinary experience, these dishes are an absolute must-try. Have you been to any of these places? It seems I can no longer visit Waimea Valley without having lunch here after, and I'm not complaining- the food here goes so hard I practically have no choice. Everything I've gotten has been gorgeously vibrant with colorful veggies and hot crispy proteins, and it's just nice to sit and people watch while refueling after volunteering or walking all morning. You can't go wrong with the plate lunches, and the sandwiches have also been killer- I loved the valley veggie one I tried last trip, and their seasoned fries are properly crispy! Will be coming by forsure with every Waimea visit at this rate of deliciousness. FYI there is a kamaʻāina discount but you may have to ask for it.

Holy.. I had the most amazing dessert of my LIFE here. Hale Kope coffee house's BUTTER MOCHI. I ate it on the North Shore beach, unwrapping the saran around that soft, warm dough, and honestly my life changed. It was so delicious, the most perfect texture, and a subtle buttery brown sugar flavour that almost made me cry it was so good. I wish I bought all of them to bring back home. I think about how I may never taste anything that delicious and I can't even come to terms with it. I'm still in denial because I spiritually need to have it again... But for now it shall remain just a beautiful memory I think of everyday 🥲

This was such a dumb move it’s not even busy and we are 40 mins with no food. Bob saget. Turns out they didn’t even put our order in the kid at the front desk just left it in a pile. Amazing feel like an idiot for tipping 15%. If you order your food standing up you shouldn’t tip, new rule awful dining experience. Not a vibe should have driven to town for better food silly me. Food couod have been worse but the second you bring it to your plate you get absolutely assaulted by these flys with giant red eyes and little birds

Located within Waimea Valley, this place has the best fries I have ever had. Hurricane fries for $7. I'm in love with them. They stay crispy even after a couple of hours. I crave them every day. The musubi is only $3 too and it's very good.

Don't care about the food or atmosphere. If a PB&J sandwich takes 30+ mins, something is dysfunctional. Only reason why this place may be operational is the monopoly status it has at the Waimea Falls.
