Disappointing End to a Perfect Trip We came to Umekes on a Sunday, excited to enjoy a meal, despite the hour-long wait. However, our experience was completely ruined by the two ladies working there. Their rudeness and inconsideration were shocking, especially in front of my little girls. The tone they used was far from the Aloha spirit you'd expect in Hawaii—practically yelling at customers. My 6-year-old even said she didn't want to eat there because the atmosphere was so terrible. It's sad to write this review because I love the Umekes restaurant in Kona, but this airport location is a huge disappointment. A place that should embody warmth and hospitality did just the opposite.

Good teriyaki chicken the chicken was well cooked flavors were good. The bowl fries were unique just wasn’t a big fan of the thicker fried cut, but I think if you like a lot of potato, you might really enjoy this style of french fry. The servers were friendly and attentive. the food came out quick and hot. I just wasn’t a big fan of the overall taste of the food but good since I didn’t have to leave the airport although if I had a longer layover, I would’ve taken a Lyft or an Uber and gone to one of the cafés that were pretty close by. Lots of outdoor seating under umbrellas for shade and also the café inside is air-conditioned and had a decent amount of tables

The grilled fish plate was huge and tasted great! Liked the spicy mayo - got it on the side to control the heat. Had my dish with rice & macaroni salad. Both were very good as well. As far as price, Umeke 's isn't more expensive than your resort restaurants. Food here was fresh and hot upon being served - made to order! Loved eating at Umeke's! Oh, atmosphere is like a casual place and is very clean & has a/c.

If I could give zero, I would. The bar lady here completely ruined the last bit of my Hawaiian trip. This is the only restaurant in the terminal, and yet the service is beyond unacceptable.

Here’s what happened: I ordered normally, then politely asked if I could have a virgin piña colada. She immediately snapped “no” and claimed there was a “federal law” that non-alcoholic drinks cannot be served in a glass. Excuse me? The tone she used was hostile and dismissive from the start. And SWEETHEART, I live in America, if there’s “federal law” about this, trust me, I’d know.

What makes it worse: her attitude was blatantly different toward me and my sister compared to others. I strongly question if there was racial bias involved. After that, she started yelling across the bar that “no nonalcoholic drink can go in glass, not even water” and even shouted at customers, “ARE YOU GONNA LISTEN TO ME OR NOT?” Absolutely unprofessional, aggressive, and disgraceful behavior.

I don’t care what excuse she thinks she has, no staff member should treat paying customers like this, especially in an airport where travelers don’t even have other dining choices. This was embarrassing, hostile, and deeply disrespectful.

Do yourself a favor: eat before you get to the airport, because no one deserves to have their trip end on such a toxic vibe.

And to that bar lady, I truly pity you. Acting like a crazed, possessed figure in front of paying customers is just so embarrassing and pathetic. Please, treat yourself better, get a real life outside of yelling at strangers, and maybe you’ll be a little less furious and...

DO NOT EAT HERE! Absolute filth all over the restaurant. Rude, slow service. Garbage on floors. Dirty tables. General uncleanliness.

$15 for a cold, pre-packaged turkey sandwich that may not have been held at correct temperature. The Health Department should do an IMMEDIATE food service inspection.

Eat before you come to this airport!!! They don’t care about your business. The service is walk-up, and then you seat yourself. When you pay at the register, they have the nerve to have you sign a receipt asking for a tip.

Not only was it $15 for a prepared cold sandwich served in a plastic clamshell, but the prices for many of the menu items were out-of-this-world expensive, even for it being Hawaii and even for it being an airport in Hawaii. Some examples include $25 for a frozen beef patty warmed on the flat top grill. $30 for a poke bowl. $5 for a soft drink in a plastic bottle.

This is price-gouging make no bones about it. The Hawaiian Attorney General or Health Department should shutter this business...

Poke, really, really good! The gentleman at the food counter was super friendly!

The young lady at the till should really look for another job! The question whether 2 items are under 40 dollars (with tax added, since you only add the tax when you pay in USA) can also be answered in a friendly manner. I have never been so rudely snorted at anywhere! Treating a customer like that is actually a reason to remove such a woman from the store. And the statement that you are "stupid because it's the same all over the planet" is 1. an insult and 2. incorrect - as e.g. in germany taxes are always included (at least in restaurants)! I wish the lady a happy life, and if she ever visits Bavaria, the most unfriendly middle Franconian waitress you can imagine. And her statement "guys like you are the reason why I hate my Job" shall be an advise to Management :D...so...better find another one...without Customers with questions. What a pity for...
