Jackie's Airport Restaurant — Restaurant in Hayes Township

Went with a couple of good friends visiting from the south western part of Michigan. This place from the beginning on the outside looking in reminded me of an old family restaurant my family owned back in the day and the smells from outside were nice as we waited to be seated. It is quite a tight fit in there once they get busy as we were a party of 5 seated at a table for 4 with one chair now needing to be right where everyone has to walk by for the bathroom so everyone no matter how far you tucked yourself in is touching you and your chair to get by as you are trying to eat. They were assigning people to tables that had not been cleaned off from the previous customers so people were sitting looking at dirty plates and garbage until someone cleaned the table off in front of them which took about 3-5 mins of sitting and looking/smelling someone’s food. One of my friends was constantly asked to get up from his seat so the table next to us could be served their food. This was all before we even had eaten. Once we had gotten our food ordered and brought to us. One breakfast has been forgotten as did two peoples orders of toast. I’m assuming they had not even started their order as they had to wait almost 10 mins to get their food. We went for breakfast. Not a hard menu to cook as their basic breakfast options. Bacon and toast were black on half of each to the point of being ashy tasting in the mouth. Sausage gravy was very bland, and the steak for steak and eggs was completely raw in the center when asked for a medium/medium well steak. All in all very displeased with the experience as a whole. Only reason why I didn’t do 1 star was because the waitresses and staff were extremely nice and courteous. I would love to come back just one more time since a friend owns a cabin up there to give them one more shot when they are a little less busy due to the awesome staff. Horrible experience. I ordered breakfast and it came back three times wrong. I ordered my eggs over medium both times, I sent back just the eggs, and they were returned with the whites slimmy and runny both times. I didn't get my bacon or the right toast. Also I had no onions in my potatoes that were not prepaired crispy liked I ordered. The third time my breakfast came back to the table wrong, I told them thank you, but to forget it. I waited until the rest of my guests were finished eating to pay the bill. Are you going to believe they MADE ME PAY for the breakfast. No apology offered and no attempt at being polite about demanding the $5.95 for the breakfast that came back 3 times, while my guests watched the circus. Needless to say I will never eat at this restaurant again. How can you charge for a service you failed to provide? I didn't eat the food because you couldn't cook over medium eggs. I would have stayed and demanded my money back, but I was running late for work at this point. I should have called the police. I I have never left a review on any restaurant ever, but this is something that needed to be posted. I hope that $5.95 was worth this review. Because quite honestly It wasn't about the money. It's the principle. I hope you remember how you spent it.. This was my first time at Jackie's ordering take-out for 4 of us. I ordered the meatloaf, mashed potatoes with turkey gravy, and a side salad. The mashed potatoes and gravy were great. Salad was mostly iceberg lettuce but it was crisp and cold. I was not a fan of the meatloaf. We all agreed it had too much filler (oatmeal maybe??) in it. The beets were delicious per my mother but she felt the scalloped potatoes were "too wet."

The waitress said everything (but the tomato soup) was homemade. They had several soups (6 if I am remembering correctly) offered. I wish I would have tried the beef barley or cheeseburger soups. They also offer several homemade desserts. We LOVE carrot cake. My cousin purchased 2 pieces which we all shared. The carrot cake was good and very moist. We all agreed we would have liked it more w/o the raisins. Keep in mind, most people would likely love the carrot cake just the way it is. We happen to all be very particular about our carrot cake. 🥕

The nicest part of this restaurant was the staff. I could tell this is a local hotspot with a lot of regulars which was nice to see. It is a comfortable place. We felt welcome. Thank you to the staff for their kindness ❤. If I am in the area again I would definitely stop in to...
