A biker bar with gormet food???? What??? I just happened to be driving through Hebron IL and stopped in for lunch. I expected some typical pub food. What I got was a foodie's dream come true.
First off, I don't think I've ever met a general manager, and cook(chef) that had so much pride in their food. I started off with a sweet corn soup that would rival most 4 star restaurants. Then I was "encouraged" to try the stuffed mushrooms. This was a decadent display of mushrooms, garlic, blue cheese, and sauce that was a meal all on its own. Then, and only because I had ordered it without understanding how awesome all this was going to be, I was served the Softtail Sandwich.
Growing up in Chicago you tend to learn to be a bit of a beef sandwich snob. So I was leary when I saw a toasted roll come out with tomato and melted cheese. But I cannot tell a lie, this was by far one of the best beef sandwiches I've ever had. The beef was perfectly cooked and seasoned, the melted cheese added another flavor level that my pallet wasn't ready for, and the mix of veggies and vinaigrette just danced all over these taste buds.
Such a wonderfully delicious surprise. I'll be coming back for the Brick Fired Pizza...Which I was informed that dough and sauce are made...
Read moreStopped in today on my travels of running my weekly errands for a beer and a bite to eat, and let me just say it will be a new “regular” stop!
Let’s start with the staff - the bartender John and manager Matt we’re both an absolute joy to talk to! They were both so friendly, were sure to explain the menu and answer any questions I had, and most importantly (to me) very excited and passionate about their new and updated menu, which is always a great sign and made me EXCITED for my lunch to arrive!
Now on to the food… HANDS DOWN The Best Brick Oven Pizza I have EVER had! I ordered the Iron Head Pizza and it was Absolutely OUT...
Read moreWe stopped at the first saloon after visiting the Illinois train museum, we moseyed on up to 3 bar stools and asked what we should eat, we got a 10 minute guided tour of the menu from Matt (super awesome guy, guaranteed he can light a fire and change a tire) , we ended up with a new York style Matt-hatten , large arc slices that fold in half to eat like a New York pizza should be eaten, the toppings, thin crust and flavours were tremendous. the bartenders were speedy and attentive and our beers were always full and ready to be emptied.
If you don't love this place you don't love perfection.....
Thanks Matt,...
