Pigtail Charlie's Diner, LLC — Restaurant in Hedrick

I have NEVER had a bad experience here, but today took the cake. I’m still here waiting for my food as I write this review. My husband got the buffet and has ate and has been done. I got a hot beef sandwich and a grilled cheese and fries for one boy and mini tacos and fries for the other. We have been waiting 1hr and 15 minutes for our food. A table of 6 came in about 20 minutes AFTER us and got their food before us.

The waitress and the staff here have been extremely rude. They act like they don’t care. It’s been the worst experience I’ve ever had at a restaurant. I’ve always said great things about this place, but this experience makes me never want to come back.

The owner walked in and greeted and talked to the table of 6, but never once confronted us. I said something to our waitress (who never even checked on us or refilled our drinks, I had to wave her down and ask).I also waved her down TWICE to see when we were getting our food and I also pointed out to her that the table of 6 that came in AFTER us got their food before us and all I received was “I’m sorry mam.” I also said something to the other waitress that was working as well and she just brushed it off like it was no big deal. They all knew I was upset with our experience.

I’m never the kind of person to expect a free meal or a discount, but that would’ve been the right thing to do in this situation. We ended up paying full price. Being a waitress myself, I never leave a restaurant not tipping because I know we live off of tips, but I absolutely did not tip today. I give what’s deserved and none of the staff there deserved a tip. So sad and extremely...

First time here. Nice to have a close alternative to Ottumwa's fare. The tenderloin sandwich plate was delicious, I substituted beef gravy for the white, just my preference. Delicious, filling, and cooked just right. The mashed potatoes are food service style, smooth and buttery tasting, just like in school lunches way back in the day. My wife had the hot beef sandwich plate, and she said it was very delicious. From what I observed on other tables, the numerous choices available on the menu all looked really good, and you can get full bar service as well with your dinner. The pie menu was very long, and even included key lime, but we were too stuffed to try any. Neat, clean, tasty, and friendly. Your wallet doesn't have to suffer, either. Definitely worth repeating...

Arrived shortly after 12pm and only 1 booth occupied. It is in a very rural farm town that we happened upon due to a road detour.

We sat by a window that was quite dirty and littered with dead flies.

Nice variety on menu. One of my party of 3 ordered a burger with mac salad, the other chicken tenders with a side salad and I ordered the fish sandwich with waffle fries.

The burger had good flavor tho a bit overcooked and the mac salad was too sweet. The tenders were dry and the side salad was iceberg. My fish sandwich was nicely done, generous size, moist, crispy and hot, the waffle fries not so much. No ketchup on the table and waitress was busy dealing with newly arrived lunch crowd.
