Home Town Diner — Restaurant in Hermitage

Just weird and gross. Sunday morning 10:00. 12 tables total, approx 30 people. Two servers and one assumed bus-person. All three seemed overwhelmed and frustrated. People wanted to come in and eat but were told they would have to wait for a table and breakfast ended at 10:30. Some people left and others waited. I'm unsure why they wouldn't open the "back room" but maybe a big church crowd was expected. They do not take credit or debit but offer an ATM and accept personal checks. Weird. Hash Browns were barely cooked, all of the food was smothered and drowned in grease, oil or butter, I'm not sure. If you like playing Fallout, you'll loathe/love the decor and "machines" they have. Lots of hideous metal signals plaster the walls that say ridiculous things. Not funny or clever. Just odd. The breakfast menu was chaotic and so frickin hard to read. Pictures and word blips everywhere. We had trouble deciphering any of it. I think they've tried to go with a theme that's laid back and hip. They just didn't hit the mark. Idk how it won Rural Missouri best breakfast 2024. It seems like that might have been paid for, or that the winning kitchen staff were on vacation 🤷 However, the waitress was sweet and efficient, the coffee was hot and not burnt, the toast and fried eggs OE were good and it was only $32 for three of us. I am leaving a 2 star review only because the waiter was very nice and did a great job I usually don't leave reviews but feel like I need to this time we drove a good ways out of our way to eat here only because of the write ups in other publications I will say this everything we read about the place was false the food was and I hate say it like this but terrible the omelets had some kinda like steak seasonings or something of the sort and had a fishy taste ask for over medium eggs on another plate and got hard cooked the bacon and sausage was fridgerator cold sausage had almost no flavor or taste and even the hashbrowns had some sort of seasonings on them and the portions was not what I would call equivalent to the price the pancakes are pretty big but again not much flavor to them maybe lunch is better but either way would not go again...

Hickory County has a not so hidden gem...Home Town Dinner voted #1 by Rural Missouri. Made the drive this morning to see what all the buzz is about and all we can say is WOW. Coffee was not as usual when we asked it is freshly ground perfection... Had to sample as much as possible - eggs over medium, Perfect... biscuits and gravy Perfect... Pecan butter waffle, OMG it was amazing. Did I mention that All bread is homemade. Our waitress was the daughter, she and her mom wait and buss tables and run register while Dad and son make magic in the kitchen. Might go back tomorrow and try the fried chicken and homemade rolls!
