Review of Jackie’s Soul Food – Richmond, VA ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ Honey. Let me tell you right now—Jackie’s Soul Food is not just a restaurant, it’s a whole experience. From the moment you walk in, the aroma wraps around you like your grandma’s Sunday hug—and that’s just the appetizer. Richmond, you’ve got a gem, and it’s name is Jackie. Let’s start with the queen behind the bar: Mixologist Beverly. This woman isn’t just mixing drinks—she’s crafting masterpieces. I ordered a Flight, and baby, when I tell you it took flight?! I swear one sip had me speaking in tongues and planning my next birthday there. Every glass was a passport stamp to flavor paradise. Bev isn’t just pouring drinks, she’s curating memories. And then there’s Tink—chile, Tink is a whole VIBE. Sass, class, and a splash of that good energy that makes you feel like you’ve known her forever. She’s serving up realness with a side of cornbread and a wink. Tink will have you laughing, vibing, and ordering three sides you didn’t know you needed—because, yes, you do need that mac and cheese, greens, and candied yams. The food? Don’t even play. Those salmon cakes were so good, I almost proposed. Cornbread? Moist. Collards? Seasoned with wisdom. And the fresh brewed sweet tea? Let’s just say I had a religious moment. You ever had a tea that made you reevaluate your life choices? Yeah. That. Jackie’s is the kind of place that feeds your stomach and your soul. You come for the food, but you stay for the people, the energy, and the pure, unapologetic joy. If you’re in Richmond and you haven’t been, I have one question: what are you even doing with your life? Catch me back there next trip, saving room for those yams and dancing with Tink by the bar. Go. Eat. Praise Jackie. Amen.

We called prior to arriving and when we arrived there was a table with the word reserved on it and we were seated immediately. There were tables available when we arrived. The first server that greeted us was CeCe. She was nice and then our server was Liz. Liz did an excellent job serving us and the food was amazing as always and as expected. 8 months ago was our first impression. The food here is FRESH, HOT and AMAZING! Niya was our server and she provided excellent service! Her mom, Peppy, is the manager and co-owner. Peppy checked on us several times and asked was everything okay and had some nice lengthy personable conversations with us. We had all the traditional soul food favorites and they were all delicious! The lemonade and the catfish was so good that I could not even eat the sides that I ordered; took them to-go. We saw food food being brought our from the kitchen to other tables. I saw someone lifting their steaming hot food to their mouth and saw the steam coming off of the food before it entered their mouth. Another woman told my sister in law, your food looks so good. We said the same thing when we saw food being brought to people at other tables. This has to be the BEST SOUL FOOD restaurant in Richmond EVER!

Recently relocated to RVA from down south, and it was suggested that I go to Jackie’s because I wanted some good southern soul food. Well we went, sat down ordered pork chops and the ox tails entree...well our waitress came back 3 minutes later and said they “just” ran out of ox tails due to a large takeout order. It was 5pm and the place just opened at 12 noon and my first thought was, how the heck you run out of food (yep they ran out of corn bread to) that early in the evening. Well, I end up ordering wings which were basic, (we drove 30 minutes to get there, which I could have gotten wings ANYPLACE but there was nothing else on the menu that appeal to me so..) the chops were good, cold collard greens good potatoes salad, yams ok and the service a little off (had to ask for silverware, first a fork then a butter knife for the rolls with butter) but our waitress was nice. First visit and unfortunately our last (I dislike unpreparedness) Oh but we did get a 10% discount ($3.43) for the our inconvenience, so that make the experience alright I guess.

We got the fried pork chop dinner with an extra side and fried chicken wingette dinner. Pork chop dinner with an extra side was $22.59 ($17.99 for pork chop dinner with an extra side was $4.60, but when we got home we discovered the extra side we paid $4.60 for was not in our bag with our food), and fried chicken wingette meal was $15.99. Take out includes a 10% service fee, and dine in includes an 18% gratuity, which I feel is steep. We purchased a top shelf long island ice tea and an apple martini, which was $30, which was way too expensive in my opinion. We arrived at 9:30 p.m., so parking wasn't bad. Previously when we dined in, the parking was kinda limited, but nothing to complain about necessarily; restaurant is located in a strip mall, so parking can be somewhat limited. Atmosphere is very nice with good music playing in the background. Very clean restaurant. Proportion of food that they give you is huge; we always had enough leftovers to take home with us. Our first visit to Jackie's was awesome. Food was wonderful and service was impeccable! In addition to the 18% gratuity that they tack on to your bill, we were so impressed with our experience that we gave the waitress an additional $10 on top of the 18% gratuity. However, our next few visits weren't as great as our first visit. Waitress wasn't as attentive; she checked on us maybe once and didn't come back to give us refills. We had to flag her down and ask for refills, which took her a long time to bring to our table for some reason (I thought maybe she forgot as there were a lot of people in the restaurant that night). We also had to flag her down to get our bill. It was almost as if she didn't seem to take care of us during our dining experience. Our next few visits definitely weren't as impressive as our first visit; service was very slow and it took a long time to get our food, but when we did get our food it was very tasty and nice and hot. We decided to go to Jackie's yesterday for take out because it was close to 9:00 p.m. and we knew they were closing at 10:00 p.m. When we called to place our order at 9:04 p.m., we initially got a voicemail that told us not to leave a message on the voicemail as they do not check it often, so when we called back a second time we did get through. I will not state the ladies name. We placed our order with her; after we placed our order, the lady who answered the phone didn't hang up the phone after we gave her our order. She continued to talk to another person working there after she took out order, and we overheard everything she said. She had an attitude about the fact that we called to place an order at 9:04 p.m. as they were closing at 10:00 p.m. She told another employee that she didn't understand why we were calling that late to place an order; she said, "Why they calling this late when they know we close at 10:00 p.m., what the heck," is what she said. When we arrived at 9:30 p.m., we stood at the take out counter for a good amount of time before anyone even acknowledged us. Several employees looked at us, but never even acknowledged that we were standing there, almost as if they didn't give a crap, I guess because they were closing at 10:00 p.m. and we arrived at 9:30 p.m. Again, I will not state her name. Several employees were sitting at the bar when we got there. The bartender asked my spouse, "What do you want!" with an attitude. He told her, "I'm waiting for my wife, she's coming in a second, we wanna get a drink before we leave." Her attitude seemed to change after he told her we wanted to get a drink before we left. He told her he was waiting on me to make it to the bar as I'm moving kinda slow due to medical issues which require me to use an assistive device to ambulate. The only reason we went to the bar for drinks is because we asked the lady who gave us our food if it was too late to go to the bar for drinks and she told us, "No, y'all can go to the bar if you want." We felt as though we didn't receive service with a smile like we did on our...

Coming to Jackie’s Restaurant was one of the worst restaurant choices I’ve ever made. This would be a place that I’m definitely not returning to even if a gift certificate was given. The customer service was extremely horrible! My wife and I decided to do a double date night with friends from out of town on tonight and chose Jackie’s based on a referral from a friend. Upon arriving on the parking lot we asked a guy at the door about parking. He informed us that the parking at the door was only for special people. He proceeded by looking in our car and said “I don’t see any special people in there.” This response was very alarming to me, but we proceeded with parking in efforts to make the most of our night. After parking we went to the front door where there same guy began to frisk down us for weapons. 😲Weapons??? What type of establishment is this. My friend that was with me was first to get frisked and then the guy went towards his wife. That’s when my friend stated “you aren’t going to be touching on my wife!” My friend continued on by stating “You wouldn’t let anyone touch up and down on your wife would you?” The guy begin to agree and stated if it was his wife “No”, but if it was his girlfriend it didn’t matter (as he used profanity). The security guy proceeded with just checking the ladies purses and then proceeded to frisk me. I’ve never been to a club or a place that I had to be search. Had this information been placed on your website, we would’ve never visited. Upon entering in the restaurant the sign said to seat yourself. We set down and for 13 minutes we weren’t acknowledged and the table was dirty. My friend went and asked for assistance and a menu. After waiting for some time, we proceeded with leaving. While leaving one of the waitresses walked by and said “y’all have a great day.” If you don’t want to waste your time, energy and money Do Not Go To Jackie’s! We proceeded by calling Cooper Hawks and got reservations. It turned out amazing. Check out my...

Customer service is EVERYTHING and Jackie’s failed at that tonight. I placed a $74 delivery order and when it arrived, two sides and a side of sauce were missing from my meal. I called to let them know items were missing and the woman I spoke to talked over when trying to explain why I was calling and immediately told me to check the second bag. I told her there is no second bag, just 1 bag missing three items. She then said “well we check everything before it’s picked up so you’ll have to call Grubhub.” I then questioned doing that if there was no second bag to begin with. She then asked if I had the ticket from the order and said we mark through everything as we bag. I tried to ask if it’s one mark through or is there a mark through for each item, but again she kept cutting me off and talking over me. Once she was silent, I told her the missing items were NOT marked through. At that point her tone got defensive and she asked if I wanted to get the sides another day. I don’t live far from the restaurant so my thinking was to go pick them up. Before going there I wanted to make sure the sides would still be there since they weren’t marked through on the ticket so I asked if the items were still there. She refused to answer the question and asked what was I going to do. Again, I asked if the items were there (because I was going to come get them) and she got loud and argumentative. Instead of taking responsibility for the mistake and apologizing for the items missing and the inconvenience, she chose to be unprofessional and rude. I decided to return the food that was delivered and get a refund for the entire order. The manager was nice and apologetic(too bad she didn’t answer the phone) however it’s a done deal for me, I don’t need to spend...
