Billy Bricks Pizza & Ice Cream — Restaurant in Highwood

I’ve ordered from this place before and always had a good experience, but after my most recent visit, I’m not sure if I’ll be back.

On Monday, I picked up pizzas and wings at 6:30 PM and ate around 7 PM. By 1 AM, I started experiencing symptoms of food poisoning, and by 3 AM, my son was also vomiting. For the next 18 hours, neither of us could eat or drink anything. The only item we both ate was the wings.

While the food appeared to be cooked properly and had no off-putting smell, I have a concern about the handling process. When I picked up my order, the employee at the register was cleaning, then proceeded to open the container of wings with bare hands, made space inside, and placed the sauce containers directly in with the food—without washing his hands or using gloves. Typically, sauces are placed on top of the container or in a separate bag, not mixed in with the food.

I wanted to share this experience in hopes that the restaurant takes food safety and hygiene more seriously. We have enjoyed their food in the past, but after this incident, I’m...

3 stars for me but it might be 5 stars for you. And it’s only been a year. Let’s give them a chance to really get good. The potential is there.

Best ice cream in Highwood. The four owners and entire staff get high marks for making their own ice cream and using their own recipes. It’s got the right fat content... it’s got the texture... whatever ingredients they are buying are good quality.

For me... it’s too sweet and the flavors on the one day I went did not do it for me. Of the flavors I tried, I would have the coffee again... although I suggest renaming the flavor “coffee light and sweet” as it tastes like a cup of Joe with two spoonfuls of sugar and a lot of milk.

Of all the ice cream places I’ve visited this summer, Chicago Mike’s has the greatest potential. I look forward to...

Fantastic ice cream and fantastic service. My wife and I cycled down from Lake Forest and couldn't have been happier. I had a sundae w/ choc. chip. cookie dough and sicilian pistachio chip. Jess had a sorbet. Both were spot on. We ate them too fast to take a picture :(

The owners show a lot of care for their customers and their employees alike in the COVID era. The outdoor order setup keeps the patrons safe and comfortable with plenty of outdor seating, too. I noticed that it's the manager or possibly owners who are taking customer orders, while the more novice employees are kept safe doing the prep-work. All the employess are well masked and gloved, keeping everything very hygenic and transparent.
