How could this be? How could this place have so many five star ratings when only an aversion to absolutes, and an awareness of the vicissitudes of memory in old age, keep me from labeling today's "buffet" lunch the worst Indian food I've ever had! Certainly, it was worse than the cliche offerings along Devon Avenue back in the bad old days of filthy carpets, and the "one roach" rule (One was acceptable, but two or more was disqualifying) during my years reviewing restaurants for Chicago Magazine, and those of the gaggle along East 6th Street in the East Village -- so similar that one wondered if those 20 or so places shared a common kitchen! Worse even, I though, (although my wife says no) than the sparten meal prepared by several woman over the course of an inexplicable number of hours in the home of the 7th-generation spiritual advisor to the Maharaja (now honorific) of Gwalier!
One might be tempted to attribute the timid spicing and parsimonious use of butter to just to the misguided belief among many Indian restaurateurs that the buffet clientele is so unsophisticated that they would reject the (alleged) more complicated a la carte offerings (I mean, it's Chicago's northern suburbs, not Montana in the 1980s!), but nothing can explain the dry, overcooked chicken and lamb in over-thickened, murky sauces!
I guess we should have been forwarned: When we arrived at 12:15 for a buffet that was scheduled to start at 11:30 (or 10:00, depending on what one reads) the large dining room was completely empty, and there was no food in the buffet setup! When we inquired if they were open, we were assured by the engaging waiter that they were, and the buffet was being prepared. As we sat and waited, it became clear that the buffet was being prepared for us, alone! Not the bubbling vats of 40 dishes their promotional material promises, but stingy blobs of about a dozen barely reheated, overcooked dishes. (In all fairness, the chana dal and the naan weren't bad.)
The waiter kindly offered a 10% reduction to our bill (The so-called buffet was priced at $23.99 ea), but even with that, some might think the $55 (+tip) billing smacked of...
Read moreI am supposed to provide a zero star. I ordered a chicken boneless briyani and chicken tandoori on aug1st 2023 for a delivery via uber eats. I received a cold and spoiled food. Biryani was spoiled and smelling bad same with chicken tandoori too. I just trashed them. I do not recommend this restaurant for anyone. Especially if you are with family and kids please consider alternatives.40$ order went to trash. If you want to get admitted in hospital then please go for it.
In Reply to owner comment. If food is good why will i give a bad review comment. Check my other reviews for restaurant like Aga's who do business with ethics. At end of day you served me a spoiled food for 40$. Unethical business you run. Mistake i did is immediately i should have brought back the food to Health deportment of IL and raised a complaint. Next time will...
Read moreThe food was alright, but the price, portions, and service were terrible!
When my friends and I entered the restaurant there was no waitstaff at all. The only person there was in the back and had headphones in. We had to call and wave to get his attention multiple times before he finally came out and seated us.
The price was around $17 for a very small bowl of Chicken Korma, and about $4-5 for a tiny plate of a few slices of Naan. I think if they just upped the portions slightly and turned down the price, this would have been a lot more reasonable.
We were the only customers at the restaurant besides 1 other person, and it still took forever for us to get our orders taken, get our check, etc.
Overall, it was mid and I would not recommend this place unless they make some changes to their pricing and their...
