Went to VanPamel's for dinner today (Sunday Aug.11). Sweet young blond girl waited on us. She was polite, adjusted the fan to accommodate us and checked to make sure our meal was satisfactory. The food was ok. We just had a burger and a patty melt. But the other waitress (she was older than the blond girl and had maybe a dyed streak in her hair) working there was loud and had a potty mouth that should not be used around customers. We heard the F word a number of times along with other choice words. She also made the comment to the other waitress about how she just worked there and would throw out some things instead of keeping them if it were her. All very unprofessional. Although I realize this is a small town restaurant, it doesn't excuse the language and I imagine the owners wouldn't be happy to know their employee thinks they aren't doing things to her satisfaction and loudly lets it be know to other employees and customers. We only visit this restaurant maybe twice a year when we make a trip north and have never had this kind of experience in the past. I was disappointed by the actions of the older waitress who should have know better but didn't seem to care...
Read moreNew owners, I believe, and loved the meal! I had the sportsman's (?) breakfast with 3 eggs, about 6 sausage links and about a half pound of fries. All were delicious, but what really sealed the deal for me were the six half slices of home made bread/toast. Am a big fan of toast and I can easily say that was THE best toast I have ever wrapped my smile around. And I am 60 years old, so believe you me, I have eaten a lot of toast. My wife ordered the blueberry pancakes and OMG, that plate was hidden by 3 very huge pancakes. She fished about 1/4 and took the rest to go. We noshed on those for two days afterward. If you ever find yourself in Hillman, Michigan, get your butt to the top oh the hill and pay this place a visit. Would almost guarantee you will be satisfied. Thanks to the owners and crew for such a...
Read moreWe stopped here over this past weekend on March 1, 2025 and had breakfast. We had never visited this diner, but learned the breakfast is definitely a hidden gem. I had the biscuits and gravy and my partner had a traditional breakfast with eggs, hash browns, and homemade toast . You could tell the staff recognized that we had never been there before so they were very gracious to explain their portion sizes . We elected to have half size portions yet were still incredibly generous. The atmosphere felt like you were at a relative’s home . Very welcoming with a that familiar retro classic vibe . I highly recommend stopping here for breakfast if you are in that region of...
