The Hillsboro Cafe — Restaurant in Hillsboro

It was what I expected it to be. The only restaurant in town besides when VFW is having food. The door showed they are open tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday Friday closing at 2pm as of October 24,2025.

The server didnt write our order down so when it hit her that she forgot to put our food order in, she came back to ask us for our food order again. We only ordered breakfast foods and the table ordering lunch who arrived after we had already ordered our food, were almost finished when our food came out. I knew from the minute she wouldn't write down the order that things would go wrong. Even if you believe you can remember an order, write the order down for your customer's sake so they think you care. Just a tip as a former restaurant. manager. There was only 1 table and they were finiding up when we arrived, ao there theoretically should have been no reason it should have taken nearly 40 minutes to get our food, especially when the table coming in after you order eat before you write down orders I tip 20-25% always unless the server is a fault as I know servers can not change the kitchen, but I tipped 15% on this one. Honestly such a small town, I fear thats a normal tip, even though its not in bigger towns.

As for food, hubby loved his blueberry pancakes. My green chili omelet was ok. I did however, love my hashbrowns. They had a different flavor than most but definitely a good thing!

Very limited hours but the only restaurant in town. I struggle to see how it has such a good rating. But as someone who full time rvs for over 5 years now, we've eaten a lot of places & I know it being the only place in town gives it good ratings. I really wanted to love this place as small towns typically have the best food...

Cute small cafe in a beautiful small peaceful Town. Friendly staff. Food was flavorful, glazed carrots was amazing. But a few hiccups: 1. I order my steak med rare it came out well done. 2. It took way to long for my food to come out, while 2 other tables got there food before me and I was there first. 3. I ask the server for steak sauce and I received a empty bottle. 4. Mashed potatoes barely warm. 5. I asked the serve to I would like my mashed potatoes loaded "cheese and bacon" and she reply that it comes loaded butter and sourcream but it did not. Guess she didn't know what loaded meant. I asked for extra onion on my salad and received none. 6. Manager never came for a table visit after I brought to the serves attention that my steak was over cooked. The cook came out and apologize. They did offer desert which was nice. I did eat all my dinner " I was really hungry". I will return to give them another try. Hopefully my next experience will be different. 2 stars because the carrots had good flavor...

Much needed breakfast spot for this nice town!! Recommend the Cranberry Wild Rice French Toast or anything on the menu for a breakfast lover. Very welcoming atmosphere inside. I like that the coffee drinkers at the table get their own unique coffee mug to pick from. Check their Facebook page first for any special weekend or holiday hours, but it is well worth a visit if you are out of town.
