Edit: Now that I am reading that a 15% gratuity was included on top of the tip I left for the server, I am appalled and will never order from here again, takeout OR dine-in. What incentive is there for your server to put in ANY effort if they know that they will automatically get 15%? I was a server for years, at multiple restaurants, and have never seen a mandatory gratuity on a table of 2 before. That "hidden" fee just lost you two customers.
Original review: We've ordered takeout from here a few times and like the food a lot. We wanted to try dine-in because the atmosphere in the restaurant is great, but the service was terrible. No one at the host stand, so we waited a couple minutes to be noticed and sat in a mostly empty room. We were our server's only table for most of our time there, but we waited 10 minutes for her to appear and take our drink orders. She forgot our waters, ignored me when I tried to get her attention, then brought 1 water with ice and 2 room temperature waters with no ice, for some reason. When she came back 5 minutes later, I asked for ice and another 5 minutes later, she brought a cup of ice which we had to split ourselves, and spilled water all over the table. We were the closest table to the kitchen, so I don't understand what took so long. It was well over 30 minutes before we finally were able to put our food order in, and we ended up ordered simple things instead of what we really wanted because we were afraid we'd miss our movie with how slow service was. The server forgot the sides my wife added to her entree, and it took close to 10 minutes for her to bring them, at which point my wife's food was cold. But we didn't complain because we didn't want to miss our movie. It's a charming place, and we'll order takeout again because the food is good, but the service leaves everything...
Read moreWhile the ambiance and menu of “Family Mexican Grill” is more authentic now than under its previous ownership, one must be very specific with menu requests and make sure you check your order before leaving if it’s for take-out. I am deathly allergic to raw onions and I very seriously said do “NOT” put any raw onions in my tacos. Well, upon getting home to prepare to eat my lunch. I shockingly discovered that my tacos were filled to the rim with raw onions!!! Upon calling “Family Mexican Grill” to politely complain and express my extreme disappointment, I was even more unhappy that their cashier, Brenda (who was very kind with an upbeat personality) kept on apologizing to me for their grave mistake and only said she’d inform her manager of the problem; which easily could have killed me, did “NOT” even extend the basic professional courtesy of a replacement order or a full refund. Anyway, I am still hungry now because my lunch was inedible and I am also out my $$$ too😔 I have no idea how the food is no matter what positive reviews may be online but if you are very specific about how your food is prepared when dining-out or taking-out; most especially if your health might be at risk, I strongly recommend that you do not dine “blindly” or naive at “Family Mexican Grill” because it is a matter of one’s health and safety and they will “NOT” even offer the professional courtesy of a new “correct”order of food or a full refund. Simply put, walk softly and carry a big stick if you patronize “Family Mexican Grill” in...
Read moreReally disappointed. It was our first and last visit. Read so many great reviews and we have no idea why. We were really excited to eat here due to the massive amount of great reviews.
A positive is that the restaurant is very clean. With an abundance of hanging decor and art on the walls there is no dust on any of it. The restaurant smells clean too. It is a really cute and cozy place.
The food was so awful. The chips brought to the table were bland along with the tomatillo sauce, zero flavor. We both got steak fajitas. The steak was so chewy like rubber bands. No flavor on any of it. The rice tasted off, the black beans had no flavor.
We sat there looking at each other with such disappointment. Barely ate any of it.
When got our receipt there was nowhere to put a tip. We asked and the server seemed puzzled and was unhelpful. I asked him twice did you add the tip? He said no. I find this odd, sketchy, and uncomfortable. The receipt was the customer receipt.
Patrons Pay Attention: If Mr. Cactus is taking it upon themselves by adding the gratuity that is not ok and also theft when the customer is not aware of the establishment deciding the tip. A tip/gratuity is always earned and should never be expected by staff. Go do some research on how tipping works. Masking it as a Dine In Service Fee is unacceptable. A tip, also referred to as gratuity, is a discretionary, additional payment on top of a check total given as a token of gratitude for great service and great...
