A shame I can't give a 1/2 star rating. To start I will say that I visited this place based on the reviews and average stars. I brought a good friend here for her birthday because she loves seafood. Driving up I liked how it had that 6th grade camp feel. I then saw how the handicap access left much to be desired. When I had questions about the food I was impressed that the cook who answered me seemed to know his business and I was looking forward to the food. Let me add in at this point that I am not a huge fan of fried sea food. One of the more famous chain fried seafood companies always gets me sick and so I rarely have fried sea food. Over 50% of the items on the menu was fried sea food, 25% was baked and the other 25% was ice cream. I ordered the Captains platter which consisted of clams, scallops, haddock fries, and cole slaw. as I hesitantly started in with the fried clams I was absolutely amazed! They were delicious! For the speed that they came from the kitchen I was completely wowed! I could not wait to get to my Haddock! next were the scallops. I bit into my first fried scallop and was greeted with a nice juicy "Hello!" It was at this time I had changed my mind about fried seafood and this was going to be the place that would earn my business. At first taste the haddock was unimpressive. As I began to have doubts, the second bite of Haddock set my doubts in stone. The center of the fish was still pink with a slight halo of transparency on the edge. as I tore the breading off the filet, the inside of the crust was doughy and under-cooked. Disappointed, I decided to finish off my meal with the coleslaw. Upon first bite I wanted to spit out the offensive food. What should have been a creamy slaw sauce, was runny and tasted like the dairy had gone bad or the vinegar was different. I immediately said to my birthday guest, "You should only use moms recipie if mom's Recipie is good."
Over all High Tide Take out specializes in fried seafood, and it does it in a mediocre and painfully average way. This is more disappointing than if the food was just bad.
Pro's: Fantastic family environment, In season food, friendly staff relaxing atmosphere. Con's: Inconsistent meal prep, undercooked food,
Final Thoughts: I am glad the fish is fresh and in season otherwise I could have left with food poisoning as well as a stomach full of disappointment. Sushi should be left to the sushi bars and this place should serve great fried fish. It is fast fish +1 due to the ingredients and hometown atmosphere, but not much better...
Read moreHigh Tide,? More Like Low Tide... Ordered Chicken. Young man apologized for delay after 1/2 hour wait. He offered me a free appetizer which I got with at time of meal arrival about 15 min later. He explained they were having oven trouble. Food finally came. At least the chicken did not taste fishy... Chicken was ok but little oily and not great. Onion rings were ok. Appetizer was ok but I would not order it again. A pleasant location for such and outing and the young man did tri to make things right. I would not go back there again myself. They seem to be very popular with locals and even have a car show on Wednesday nights that they advertise for. I still don't think is my kind of place. They have a lot of kids working there and it is a new season. Such places tend to get better as season progresses. Because I did not care for it does not mean you will...
Read moreI went to High Tide last night. I’m currently using a walker to get around be a of a fractured pelvis.
When I arrived I found two handicap spots, both were filled. There were many spots in the same row next to the handicap spots. Some were empty but were for curbside pickup, so I couldn’t park there. Instead I had to park approximately 45 yds away, push the walker through gravel, up a ramp, to the doors that had a sign that read “Exit Only”. Thankfully an employee opened the door for me.
The food was quite expensive so I just opted for an ice cream. Virtually no social distancing at the order window, but everyone had masks on. Social distancing was used in the dining area, and there was plenty of outdoor seating.
I would recommend providing more parking spots for handicap people, and moving all curbside...
