10/6/23....Well all good things will come to an end. Had dinner here last night and it was pretty disgusting. I ordered the southern deep fried fish. ....the online menu says it's catfish, your receipt shows it's catfish but the menu says it's "swai" with their "catfish seasoning". Swai and catfish are not the same fish. (A few months ago I had the same meal.. that WAS catfish...now I don't know what is being served. The baked Mac and cheese has changed, the coleslaw is just plane with no real flavor; almost like a bag to dump version. I don't know if their trying "new things" or just cutting corners, but I doubt, I'll eat hear again. My server was very pleasant, friendly and attentive.....A true credit to her job. (We did tip her generously even though the food was bad) The cashier was also polite, helpful and apologetic about the food. The manager?, well she seemed a little less sympathetic...argued that the fish was the same as it always was.....(I know better cause I ordered it a few months ago, plus they have a catfish sandwich too)., but gave me a whopping $2.00 discount on my meal (which by the way was just really a military discount). I thought I had found a new favorite place (read my glowing review below), but now.,.SMH... All restauranteurs... Take notice.... There's some New Kids On The Block....FIDDLER'S RESTAURANT! Fiddler's has set the bar and you had better bring your extension ladder cause they are at the TOP of their game. My wife and I went here for dinner tonight (3/24/2023) and were blown away. Everything and I mean EVERYTHING was spot on. This is THE PLACE to dine out in Galax/Hillsville now. The atmosphere is truly in touch with the local history and heritage. The music playing (country of course) is perfect. Everything is very clean, neat and orderly. Tables are clean and we'll stocked. The hostess (Amy) is a very friendly, polite and genuinely concerned about the customers and their total satisfaction. Our waitress (I missed her name...forgive me) was very friendly, polite and attentive. She obviously loves her job and it shows! The food was AMAZING! It's homemade, packed with flavor. Appearance is phenomenal, photo quality! We were promptly served our beverages...sweet tea...which was great tasting. Our appetizer was Onion Petals with two different dipping sauces which was amazing. My wife had the sirloin steak with the sides of mac-n-cheese and side salad w/blue cheese dressing. The steak was flavorful and juicy. The mac-n-cheese was homemade and would bring a smile to any picky kids face. The side salad was crisp and green and looked fresh from the garden. .I had the liver and onions with the mashed potatoes and collard greens. I will say that eating it gave me a headache.....cause my tounge has slapping my brain silly! I've been searching for a place that served liver and onions and have finally found it The mashed taters were REAL! Honest to goodness REAL red taters with skin and all and a wonderful flavor too. Then those greens, cooked perfect, not the least bit grotty. I even got a side of vinegar to drizzle over the top. Now, let's get to those dinner rolls....ahmmm.... Do you all offer them by the dozen for carry out?. These are to die for! The portions are perfect. The price is perfect. The food is Perfect. The service is perfect. The atmosphere is perfect.. I am just flabbergasted that there's a place that finally has it done right on ALL levels I hope that the owners will share this with all staff and let them know that they are doing a PHENOMENAL job! I will DEFINITELY be coming here again and again...
Read moreService was terrible passed a lady walking in but didn't know she worked there she went outside and came in several minutes later and walked in the kitchen. Never greeted us we were still waiting to be seated and were considering leaving as it had been 10 minutes. (We should have left) Heard her ask people in the kitchen which server was next finally someone came out to seat us and told us a server would be with us shortly. While we were waiting my husband took a peek at the bar since it was late in the evening we had walked in at 7:40 the restaurant closes at 9. We chose a buffet because they are quick and my kids can always find something they like. However when our server finally showed up (20 minutes in now) He informed us the buffet was closed and gave us menus. I really couldn't understand that as my husband said there was a lot of food on the buffet and the saladd bar was stocked up. Most buffets will let you know that food won't be stocked after a certain time and allow you to choose. Not this place, i'm wondering if they recycle the food.? I can't see letting all that go to waste. Anyway, we ordered from the menu and waited and waited. 20 minutes had passed since ordering. We are 40 minutes in now a different server came by and told us it was last call for the bar. Like really we could have eaten and been out the door all ready? During all this wait my toddler knocked over her apple juice and made a small spill we asked for napkins but the server took so long to get them that my husband got paper towels from the bathroom and cleaned the mess. Still we waited. Food finally came (50 minutes in) it was decent enough but not amazing. Mac and cheese was just that wet noodles with chunks of cheddar cheese slightly melted but seized up like it had been microwaved it didnt stick together no creaminess it looked like it had been blown apart with dynamite sort of crumbly. The instant mashed potatoes were decent tasted like the ones from KFC meatloaf was on point though very good. Everyone else said their food was acceptable. My son had a very nice looking fish sandwich. Even though the food was good for the most part I won't be back on my next trip through I didn't like the unwelcome feeling I felt...
Read moreMy family of 6 went to Fiddlers restaurant tonight to celebrate a birthday and ended up going to McDonald’s afterwards because our food was so bad. Each one of us got something different and each meal came out separate. We ordered an appetizer that came out after our food which was cold by that time. One person at our table didn’t receive their food at all and we were there for over an hour and every time we addressed the issue we were let know “it will be out shortly”. The fiddlers trio was not good at all, ribs came out without any rub or sauce which the sauce was provided as an extra but it doesn’t compensate for the dryness of the ribs, pulled pork was good but had no flavor and the brisket also lacked the flavor portion. If you order the kettle chips (which we were told were made at the restaurant) they will give you a total of 10 chips that look like they came from the bottom of a bag. Every plate that was served was room temperature or cold. Management let us know that they only had 3 cooks which we understood but there were only 7 tables with people at them. The manager that came to speak to our table was not polite and gave excuses for their issues instead of solving it. Our side salads were supposed to come out before the meal and along with the appetizer and they showed up after our food with the wrong dressings for half of them. On the flip side the salad bar was amazing and the waitress was very genuine, kept drinks on the table, even gathered the other coworkers to sing happy birthday. After the complaints she let us know how the cooks were acting towards the waiters/waitresses which may have been causing some of the issues we were facing. I understand being short staffed, every retail store and restaurant is experiencing this issue it just seems some deal with the problem a little better. Overall I wouldn’t recommend this restaurant to anyone I know unless I wanted them to waste their time and money, save yourself a trip and some money and check out the Galax smokehouse or macados if you are looking for some well cooked bbq or a...
