The Mason Jar — Restaurant in Hillsville

July 24 a group of us went to Mason Jar and arrive at 6:30. The place was packed and I thought great this place must be good. A big family of 9 came in behind us. So the first table the waitress was cleaning for us got which to a smaller one. Our waitress was not very polite, when asked about bar menu she got frustrated and gave it to us said she would be back. Ten minutes later I had to tell her we were ready to order, she brought drinks and appetizer, then we waited and waited and waited. The people that came in behind us eat and left. People beside us were very frustrated and the waitress was very rude to them and told them they could leave if they didn’t want to wait . The waitress was rude when I asked about our food and she said the orders had to come out as given and if she went in the kitchen to check on order she got screamed at. 2 of us got our steak salad and granny’s salad with chicken in which the meat was ice cold. Expected meat to be some what warm as if it had just been cooked when ordered, guess NOT. Fish and chips came lukewarm and then 20 minutes later the philly steak and cheese came no with fries but tater tots and 5 minutes later burger cheese melt with crab spread came with no burger. I don’t know what was going but asked for manager but there was no manager on site. I think they ran out of food and they should have just told us instead of trying to make due . I would have been probably gone back because they were honest. But now no way and we were not the only ones disappointed another table of people walked out after 2 hours waiting and being promised their food was coming but never got served at all. Bad day...

Looking for somewhere to eat in Hillsville? Don't want a chain? GO HERE!! Place is so clean (bathrooms included) We were a party of four for a lunch. We had the following things: Pulled Pork Sandwich (burbon) wings fried shrimp kid cheeseburger

*The pulled pork we got because of other reviews and they were on point! It was so good, like melt in your mouth good. I don't know if there is a smoker, I just didn't see it but it tasted smoked. Served with fries that were also delicious. To be honest they reminded me of Outback's fries. *The (burbon) wings (off appetizers) are offered 7 or 14 wings. We did 7. They were so good, I wonder if they were double fried. So crispy and also on point. Served with celery and yummy ranch. *fried shrimp, another meal that was awesome. The meal came with 9 jumbo shrimp. They were so big I really had to make myself eat my last one. Didn't even want to waste one. It was also served with those same great fries. Came with plenty of cocktail sauce. *kid burger (cheese only) our daughter is 5 and is picky about burgers. I couldn't believe that she wanted it. I was nervous about her not eating much. Momma was wrong!!! She ate only every single bite. I was shocked! It came with the same wonderful fries. Talk about knocking it out of the park! We will be back. Well folks , y'all know I usually don't post bad reviews that could possibly be bad for local businesses. I give 2 stars overall just because it has potential. I give 12 stars for food because my wife said her burger was just ok . I give 1 star for service for a few reasons 1. Our waitress took our drink order and just walked off , not would y'all care for a appetizer ? Nope . She passed everything that was ordered right over someone sitting at the table . 3 . I ask , do you have fried pickles? ( not on menu ) . She says yes we do and walks off . I give 3 stars for atmosphere because the place ( view my photos ) looks really nice . Now , if you are in any kind of hurry , leave that outside . ( nothing here is fast ) . Well are y'all ready for the not so good stuff ? Our table guests ordered the chesapeake burgers , both were NOT GOOD , bad beef ? Bad crab meat ? . They have a limited menu to beginning. Lol I ask for napkins , now mind you 0 napkins on the table , 4 guests at table , this young man comes to our table with 3 napkins . WOW we did observe a few other patrons leave the whole meals ( burgers ) on the table . I don't think I could recommend this establishment to anyone at this time . Like I said at the beginning of this review, they have room for improvement .
