Rice Garden — Restaurant in Hobart Township

4 years ago, this place was an absolute treat! We loved it!

Today, it's kind of a shell of what was.

Their S&S Chicken was one of my go to's, now it's just poorly made, and not worth the money.

The egg drop soup here used to be a treat here. Now it's just bland, with little to no substance; what's really troubling about this one is, it's kind of hard to mess up egg drop.

The pork fried rice used to be superlative. Now it's just...bland, and hardly any pork in it.

Steamed dumplings? They used to be absolutely GRAND, and stuffed. Last night we got our order, and it had an amount of meat that was clearly measured with a gerber baby spoon. It was more dough than meat. It was, frankly...pathetic.

They raised prices, kept the same portion sizes...but then just lowered the quality of the food. We don't mind price increases, Chinese take out can always run on the expensive side these days. But if you raise your prices, and lower your quality and hope nobody notices...well, that's a problem.

Not sure what happened here, but this place used to be our absolute favorite. Now it's just...it seems to be in some kind of spiral, and it's been that way for the last year. We're going to start looking for a new place to...

I have yearned to find a place with good... no.... GREAT.... Chinese food. I have finally found it! The crab Rangoons were so delicious. There were actually little pieces of crab in them, and the flavor just danced on your tongue. Also, I have had a hard time finding a place with sugar biscuits. Rice Garden has them and they are WONDERFUL! I felt spoiled right off the bat because you can actually dine in, most Chinese places are still carry out only. The food hit the plate from the kitchen, and the plate hit the table within seconds. So hot, so fresh... you have to be careful not to burn your mouth! FLAVOR! Honestly everything was just bursting with flavor. The woman that waited on us was friendly, helpful with descriptions of menu items, and very attentive. The prices were reasonable, the portions were generous... and did I mention FLAVORFUL?! This last part is going to sound funny, but even the fortune cookies were better than most places. I can't remember what brand they were, but when even the fortune cookies are above average you know you're in the...

This was a place I use to enjoy going to. Food was always great. Workers seemed so nice. Until one really made me and my mother feel very uncomfortable. We were just waiting on our take out as a lady kept pointing at us saying that this was our food. My mom gets up to get it holding her hand out as another lady comes out with our food. My mom apologized saying she misunderstood walked over to grab our food. The lady literally screamed at my mom saying “what are you trying to do steal my food!” Then just laughs and laughs none stop in my moms face. It was so loud everyone just looked at us. the sad part is the manager just sat there and let it happen and giggled. My mom is 60 years old and she just lost her husband that day at the hospital at st Mary’s. We haven’t even ate anything all day and all we wanted was some food and go home.
