I'm kind of posting on behalf of my whole family here. We love supporting our local businesses and get breakfast together at least a couple of times per month. Hollis Country Kitchen has been in that rotation for years. Over the past year or so it's been on the decline, and today's visit was our final one. It took 45+ min for our food to come out (the restaurant was less than half full the entire time), and when it did it was not worth the wait. I ordered a bacon egg and cheese breakfast sandwich and asked to add avocado and tomato to it. My dad, sister, and mom got eggs Benedict (2 with hash, one with bacon). My breakfast sandwich came out as an avocado toast, all 3 eggs Benedicts had overcooked eggs (my mom described hers as "hockey pucks"), and the home fries tasted odd. The hash looked awful, and tasted just as bad. The waitress was kind, and when I pointed out that I ordered a breakfast sandwich, she said she'd be right back with it. She put a piece of toast and some bacon on top of the avocado toast. That still didn't fix the lack of cheese, but at that point I was so hungry I didn't care. Because it was a piece of hot toast and room temperature bacon on top of what was now a cold, overcooked egg and soggy cold toast, it was weird temperature-wise, and I'm pretty sure the new piece of toast was sourdough, while I'd ordered ciabatta. To put a positive spin on it, I guess I at least got a sampling of different toasts. To top it all off, the waitress said she would take half off of our bill. She came back with it twice, the first time saying she made a mistake and needed to fix it. She came over with the bill the second time, and it was still full price even though she had marked several items as being voided? I'd think that maybe she didn't know how to use the cash register, but she said she had been working there for 15 years. At that point we just wanted to move on with our day so we paid full price and left. I doubt we'll ever be back. I used to personally love this place, and I like their coffee and location, but it's just not worth the...
Read moreI'll start by saying this was my absolute favorite place to eat. I love how the community unites here. The young and old come together as one, dining and talking to each other across the restaurant. It was delightful! In the last 6 months this place has changed dramatically. I wish I could say it was for the best. Unfortunately, it has gone so down hill. The quality of the food is no where near what it used to be. The wait time has increased to almost unbearable, especially if you have hungry little kids. The portion sizes have decreased but the prices have stayed the same. They also used to be BYOB but no longer do that. That's the worst part. Before you could go out to eat for an affordable and delicious meal and have a drink while you wait. Now you sit without a tasty adult beverage and wait for 45 minutes to an hour to get your food, which has been microwaved because its sitting in a window waiting for the rest of your order to be finished. The ONLY saving grace is the amazing server named Magdalena. She's amazing and attentive. We've been going to this restaurant for a long time now, but I won't be headed back any time soon. Maybe in 6 months they'll get a better and more efficient kitchen staff. Edited to 1 star. Extremely disappointed in your reply to my original review. The problem is not waitstaff, the problem is your in inability to admit fault in the kitchen. My original review commented on how well we were served. We were LITERALLY the only party in the restaurant this evening at 4pm. In the next hour, there were only 3 other customers served, 2 being takeout orders. We were not served our food in a timely manner at all. It took almost an hour to get our food. I specifically asked that we have an order of rotisserie chicken brought to the table as soon as possible because my 14 month old daughter was ravenous. I know for a fact that Magdalena was not responsible for the wait. I'm appalled that you would place blame on such a wonderful employee. Shame on you. Maybe it's too hot and your cooks should get out of...
Read moreRecently, I had seen a post on facebook of some absolutely delicious looking food from here. I saved this place for a nice family day out. Their website shows that they have a special menu every day and that made me even more excited to come with my family. Before my trip here, I checked google for hours of operation because I am used to places like this being very busy on weekends, but I just wanted to be sure we would not be met with an overwhelming wait time or early closing hours. Google said they closed at 5:30pm and we were heading out for lunch, so we still had plenty of time for a bite to eat. We set out for Hollis, New Hampshire and were at our destination of Hollis Country Kitchen and when we arrived, we found a single car in the parking lot. As we approached the door, we noticed they were closed. What happened, Chef Cathy? I double checked the hours online and confirmed those hours with those posted on their window. We were quite disappointed. A few minutes as we were back in the vehicle, we were searching for another place to eat when someone came outside to tell us they were closed. Don't worry, we were leaving. We probably will not be back, as it is a bit...
