We tried Copper House on a Sunday evening, around 6:30. Our party consisted of 2 grown adults, 2 younger adults, and 2 tweens. Overall, I would say that the service and atmosphere were fine. The food? Not so much.
We had heard great things about this place in a Facebook foodie group, so we decided to check it out. For appetizers, we ordered the onion petals and the garlic cheese curds. Honestly, the cheese curds was the best out of everything. For the onion petals, the breading had mostly fallen off of the onions. There were a few pieces that were half-coated, and a few crumbs of the coating on the tray. Most of the onions were naked. They came with a ranch and a pepper sauce for dipping. I did enjoy the pepper sauce. It was along the lines of what you get with the blooming onion at Outback, but not quite as good.
The special for the day was 2 porch chops, grilled or fried, 2 sides for #14.99. Grown adult 1 orders fried chops, mac & cheese, and mashed potatoes. Grown adult 2 orders grilles chops, mac & cheese, and loaded mash potatoes. The chops were thick and freshly cooked. The fried chops barely had breading. Neither seemed to have any real seasoning. (Salt & pepper ain't seasoning. Iykyk. 🤣) The sides were barely warm. My friend and young adult sent their mac & cheese back to be warmed up. I kept mine to warm up at home and added things to it. Mac & cheese can be a subjective thing. I'm used to baked mac & chesse, and golden in color. Their mac & chesse is a creamy style where it basically noodles in a white (supposed to be gouda) sauce. The mashed potatoes appeared to be instant ones. They were barely warm as well. I had to ask for gravy. That might not have bothered me so much if there was some sort of something inthe potatoes so that gravy was not needed.
Young adult 1 had the Philly cheesesteak and fries. Apparently the meat on the Philly got all of the salt that was supposed to be on our chops. She & her mother both agreed that it was very salty. She had her sandwich remade without the salt/seasoning, but took it home. She did try a piece of the meat before we left and said that it was better than before.
Tween 1 and young adult 2 ordered burgers and fries. Young men do not usually complain about burgers. Tween said that the meat tasted weird. He did not elaborate, so I'm not exactly sure what about it was weird. 🤷♀️ Young adult 2 said that it was cooked medium in the middle but well done around the edges I did not hear anyone comment about the fries for good or for bad.
Young adult 2 had the kids meal with fried shrimp and grits, with cheese added. She didn't really comment on the shrimp. The grits were hot. Her meal came with a half brownie. It was served warm. She and her mother said that it was burnt.
After reading reviews of others saying how great this place was, we were very disappointed. Usually I try to be fair enough to give places and 2nd chance before I swear them off. Not sure if I will for this one.
If you are one of the people that absolutely love this place, what are we...
Read moreThis was my daughter and my first time eating at this restaurant and were only 2 of five people dining there. The owner was busy doing paperwork with her 13ish old daughter, walking around looking to serve a table or following her mother like a puppy needing attention. We ordered an old-fashioned, but it was straight up whiskey on one small ball of ice. Neither one of the bartenders knew how to make it because we saw them whispering and looking at their phone for a good 10 minutes before bringing the drinks. We ordered a ginger ale to reduce the taste, and the waitress didn't care to ask what was wrong. After waiting ten minutes before anyone checking on us. Another 15 minutes went by after we doctored the drinks when my daughter asked for them to take the drink away and bring her water. They gave her something that tasted like a watered-down ginger ale. They brought out the cheese curds that we ordered, which was amazing!!! Then they gave us the steak that we ordered. It was luke warm and all fat, the potatoes had a weird taste, the gravy was burnt, and the frozen mixed vegetables were lightly grilled with a sour taste. After another 10 minutes, the waitress came to check on the food. When we explained what was wrong, she quickly caught an attitude and went to grab the manager. The manager that came over was seen taking shots with customers during our appetizer and meal. She said that she was allowed to, but that she was also not on the clock, though she was addressing our table and was behind the bar. We spoke very calmly about what was wrong, and she asked us the same questions over and over again. It seemed that she just couldn't grasp what was going on around her. We explained that we had no issue paying for the curds and drinks, but she told us we didn't have to pay for anything. After again asking us the same questions over and over, and we explained too many times we didn't want anything except to go home, she finally released us. We stopped by a quality restaurant for dinner, someplace else. It was very disappointing because we love to support local small businesses. However, this was...
Read moreWe gave Copper House a try when we saw Shane Clark was playing and they had a $0.99 wing special. The restaurant is clean and nice-looking with a lot of liquor options at the bar. The drinks were decent and the bartender (Kate?) was attentive for the most part. There was another bartender (not sure of the name, she had said it was her first shift) who did not pay any attention to us when Kate was busy. She stood there and spoke to the couple next to us the entire time she was “working.”
For appetizers we ordered the pork rinds with pimento cheese and the onion petals. The pimento cheese was the consistency of soup and the pork rides were absolutely inedible. One bite and you could break a tooth off - we sent them back. The onion petals were the most confusing dish I’ve ever seen. Oil-logged onions without any breading, which I knew could not be what the intended dish was. Later on we saw a plate come out of onion petals that were actually crispy and coated in a batter. Had we known that’s what they were supposed to be like, we would have sent those back too. The fact that it got past the cooks AND the bar tender and served to us that way is appalling.
Next up, the wings. We ordered 6 Carolina gold and 6 maple bourbon. The Carolina gold sauce was good, no complaints there. The “maple bourbon” that was served to us TWICE was the saltiest teriyaki sauce I’ve ever tasted. It must have been mislabeled because the bartender took the first batch back and brought another batch with the same exact sauce. The 2nd batch of wings we got was also raw (when we asked for extra crispy) and completely inedible.
Overall, not a good experience and overpriced for the terrible food quality. The best part of the experience was listening to Shane but unfortunately we will not be...
