This place has fantastic New York style pizza! I had a quick pick-up order after a busy day of traveling. I was so impressed that I ordered more pizzas for my family the following week during our 2 week visit.
The sauce is so good! Very harty and doesn't taste like cheap, canned sauce. Very rich tomato taste.
The crust was cooked perfectly with no gum line. The outter cornicione was not burnt, airy and pleasant.
The cheese stayed on the crust well, classic mozzarella that you would expect.
I ordered 3 pizzas during my stay, the quality of meats used for the pepperoni and sausage were high, and not too greasy. Our spinach, garlic, and mushroom pizza had fresh tasting ingredients as well.
Pricing is very reasonable, all their pizzas come in 1 size - very large 19", and can feed 3 hungry adults. With their pizzas being around $30, that's only $10 per person. I can't speak to the customer service or atmosphere inside because my friend picked up the pizzas.
Overall, Boston's Pizza Hawaii Kai is a top spot to try if you're wanting...
Read moreWhen I think pizza, I think Italian pizza, and when I judge pizza, I judge it against authentic Italian pizza. That's not always fair, as there seem to be many varieties of pizza styles, but I have a taste for Italian pizza, and that happens to be what I like.
What's this pizza? It's pre-made pizzas behind a counter that you pick a slice (or more) of and they heat it up for you. So in essence, you get old pizzas heated up or you just ask for what is the most fresh and hope it was recent enough and sounds good to you. That's a pretty cynical explanation, but that's what you get.
How is the pizza? Perfectly mediocre. It wasn't bad, but it wasn't good. 3/5 stars says "It's okay" and I guess that's about right. It was food and that's what we needed when we got it. Would we go back? No. Was the price right? I don't feel like what I paid for was worth what I got to eat. But it didn't make us sick and it did fill us up.
When it comes right down to it, this just wasn't pizza...
Read moreWe've been going to Kaimuki location for over 15 years, and they are consistently great...HOWEVER, we've lived in Hawai'i Kai for the last 8 years and decided to visit rhe Hawai'i Kai location for the first time...never again. The staff were young kids, with limited customer service skills. Our pizza took 15 mins longer than instructed; it actually sat on the counter uncut/unboxed for 10 mins while the staff stood around talking to each other. I stood alone waiting for my pizza for 25 mins (I came back 10 mins before the scheduled finish time) and while it sat on the back counter unattended, 3 more customers came in and their orders were taken. Finally got my pizza with no sense of urgency from the staff; got home in 4 mins and it was cold. Skimpy toppings. I'll be driving to the Kaimuki location...
