Ooof, not a great experience! We arrived around 6:45 on a Friday night and though crowded it wasn't overflowing. The hostess and the cashier continued their conversation rather than acknowledging us, which felt a tiny bit unfriendly. Once seated, there was kind of a long time before a waitress arrived. Since we weren't thinking "bad experience" I can't say how long that wait was... but a good 5 minutes I would guess. The waitress eventually came by, just to say she would be back and then we had another long wait. Another good 5 minutes. She dropped a handwritten list of specials on the table, without comment. Just no social skills. We finally ordered (he: spaghetti and meatballs; she: chicken piccatta) which arrived after a long-ish wait... not unacceptably long, but still. Even then it was the hostess who brought the meal to us. Now the food: Yuck! The meatballs were dry and actually a bit burned tasting. The sauce was unremarkable and the pasta was a bit overcooked. The chicken piccatta was disgusting. The meat was cooked, but the sauce was a coagulated mess. Way too much butter/oil and some chicken stock that had that clear appearance that you get when cornstarch is used as a thickening agent. Extreme lemon flavor. Just gluey. The food was so mediocre that it wasn't even worth mentioning as the waitress came by to check "Everything all set here?" She barely slowed down to ask the question. Certainly didn't stop. After we finished it was at least another 10 minutes before the waitress came by to ask if we wanted dessert; and when asked, brought the check promptly... and then totally disappeared. Well over 10 minutes. Eventually we got tired of waiting and went up to the cashier to pay our bill. This restaurant seemed like a throwback to the way restaurants operated 40 years ago. Unremarkable food served poorly. The restaurant itself was clean, for which we...
Read moreI have been going to Carbone’s Restaurant my entire life and of course I can’t recall much before I was six years old, the last 52 years have been awesome! I have tried most dishes though unfortunately I’m not much of a fish eater however the rest is perfect for me. Even to go in and grab a pizza with some friends regardless if it’s in the bar area or the dining area the atmosphere is perfect wherever you sat. There have been some amazing people that worked there over the years and sadly we lost my favorite one a couple of years back. MJ was an amazing person not only by waiting on you, just being in the same room with her beautiful smile and unique laugh. She had worked there almost as long as I’ve been going there. MJ is greatly missed, so, on a brighter note, the rest of the staff are wonderful and pleasant too to be seated or served by as well. For anyone to have something bad to say about Carbone’s service and food, then they had their agenda in place before they walked through the front door. There are not enough restaurants that are even close to what...
Read moreWe went to Carbones tonight. I got Prime rib and she got Veal Parm. The veal was delicious, cooked to perfection! I asked for my prime rib to be “medium rare”. I should have sent it back. It was not medium rare. The back side of my piece looked like it had been sitting in the juice cooking away , to the point of being well done. The top was pink (but just the very top). It was very tough and I wish I had sent it back.
We were there early (4:30) I think it was left over from yesterday and warmed up in the Au jus. I asked if the roast was cooked today the waitress assured me it was roasted today , I don’t believe it. If that were the case , both sides of my piece of meat would have been pink. The other side of the piece was gray and hard, not Pink at all! Well done! Not good at all! $27.95 was way too much to pay for that piece of Prime rib.., It was my Birthday and I was so disappointed… I have been going to this restaurant all my Life…. Never had a bad meal. Never...
