Black Otter Supper Club — Restaurant in Hortonville

I have never wrote a review before but I was so taken aback by our experience. Walked in checked in and went to bar to order drink. Waitress came to take our order and I asked if I could have a minute to order and look and wait for our drink to be made.. not even 2 mins later she was back. I ordered but my partner got flustered on her tone for our order and her urgency and he blurted the first thing on the menu which was not what he wanted. She came back within 5 mins to seat us. We dropped off our drinks and went to salad bar. If you have ever been in a mess hall in basic training that was our experience. Order order order.. quick quick quick.. at the end your plate is put on a ledge for pick up. We got back to our table and I counted the tables ups. 4- tables of 4. 1 table of one, 2 tables of 3. Counted 5 waitress or staff for the tables. Nobody seated up stairs in dining room. Food came before salad even half done. Waitress checked in half way on steaks and offered boxes and I expressed I would like to see in a bit. Back again a few mins later and offered a box. I said yes in the end we would be taking one. I asked for a second drink and she said quite honestly that it would be a long time so it would be best to move the bar. I hadn’t even finished half my meal. I tried asking if I could have one additional drink to finish my meal with and she said she had to speak to her manager. Came back and said it would take a long time but she would do it. I was extremely embarrassed she had to go ask a manager for permission to serve me a second drink to finish my meal and I told her to never mind. We finished 12 mins later and went to pay our bill. I counted 15 patrons in the bar either having a drink or waiting to be seated. Hostess asked about our experience and we explained and she had rehearsed answer of sorry to hear that. Not once asking a detail or what could we have done different or tell me about your concern. I had previously been been a waitress for 10 years and understand the complexities of customer service and 100% appreciate pleasing everyone. This experience was a well oiled fast moving army mess hall experience that I don’t ever want to experience again on a Tuesday night at 4pm for over $150.00. This weekend we took our first trip up to The Black Otter Supper Club in Hortonville Wisconsin. We arrived just before 5pm . As many are aware, The Black Otter uses a unique number system to keep track of and seat their guests. After stopping at the check in desk we were given a number tag and menus, then proceeded to the bar for pre- dinner drinks. The bartenders were friendly, knowledgeable and kept our drinks full while at the bar. After a short while our server approached us and introduced herself. She then explained how the seating would work and answered any questions we had about the menu. We also placed our dinner orders with her. My wife chose a Ribeye and scallops combo. I myself went for the 32oz “Queen Cut” . We enjoyed cocktails for as long as we desired. During this time our server checked back with us and told us our table was ready when we were ready to sit. Once we proceeded to our table there was warm bread and butter ready for us. Their amazing soup and salad bar was next. Tons of choices of the usual salad toppings along with prepared salads, cheese speards, several dressings, and 2 homemade soups were offered. The friendly staff prepared your salad just the way you wanted it. We returned to our table to enjoy our soup and salad. Shortly afterwards our dinners arrived. This was the main event! The star of the show!! Although I thought my wife’s Ribeye and scallops were very good the prime rib (which they are famous for) was EXCEPTIONAL!! Cooked perfect, tender, and delicious. Very well seasoned. I couldn’t believe I ate every last bite. Side dishes were tasty as well, but an afterthought to the delicious steak and Prime rib. During the evening we were fortunate to speak with Geri one of the owners. She gave us some history of the restaurant talked about their recent expansion and even was gracious enough to pose for a picture with us. The whole night was spectacular. Supper Club Tour #3

This place is amazing and ran like a well oiled machine!

As soon as you put your name in, you are provided a number and menus. The bar area is huge with plenty of seating.

I ordered a whiskey old fashioned sweet with cherries this time (decided to change up my garnish). It was a good old fashioned, not strong, but good.

After our order was placed, which was within 15 minutes upon arrival, we were informed a table would be ready shortly. Maybe five minutes later we were given our table.

The salad bar has a TON of different options and had servers to make your plate. It’s almost a Subway for a salad bar. With the salad bar there is also two soup choices. Tonight was chicken dumpling and clam chowder.

I got the chicken dumpling which unfortunately in my cup was one tiny piece of chicken and then carrots and green beans. The broth was really good, but was looking forward to some dumplings.

For dinner a queen cut prime rib was ordered with waffle cut sweet potato fries. This thing was HUGE and so flavorful throughout the whole piece of meat. It is not a shock that they have been voted the best prime rib. Just so good.

The second entree was a 9oz tenderloin with broil scallops. The tenderloin was cooked perfectly and seasoned so good. The scallops were cooked perfectly. A few had some sand still in them but still a great dish. It also came with cheese bacon mashed potatoes which were sooooo good.

After dinner we had some after dinner drinks (I forgot pictures!). They have a large menu of after dinner drinks which we ordered a Brandy Alexander and a Banana Split. Both were very good.

From the time we ordered to received our bill was 1 hour.

This is THE place to go. It is completely worth the 45 minute drive for us and we will definitely go back.
