We were buying close to closing so im hoping thats why our food was in the condition it was in. We bought 2 combo bbq plates (comes with 2 sides). First plate had chicken, brisket, mac n cheese, and potato salad. Brisket was extremely dry (not sure why they still sold it), although I was surprised it was still chewable and had good flavor. The chicken was bland and had only a hint of smoked taste. The mac and cheese was dry and not even warm (it was room temperature like it had been sitting out for a while). The potato salad is not for everyone. It had too much flavor (still havent decided if this is a good or bad thing). I'll just say that I usually order potato salad from other bbq places and i ALWAYS finish it but i couldn't finish this one. The second plate had chicken, sausage, baked beans, and fries. The chicken was same as above. I did NOT like the sausage because it tasted just like breakfast sausage. I dont buy breakfast sausage because i dont like the flavor so i definitely didnt like this sausage. It was also filled with many bits of fat which is another thing i dont like. The fries were good for being fries. The kiddos liked these. As for the baked beans, another disappointment. Not because of flavor but because they didnt give me enough. I got about 1/2 cup of baked beans and even as I type "1/2 cup" I feel like im being generous with the description. The bbq sauce was delicious so theres that! Regardless of all of this, I am willing to try them out again. But.... One thing I did not agree with, AT ALL, is that the employee bringing out the food did NOT have a face mask. To be honest, I didnt notice if she had one as we paid because I was not paying attention but I definitely noticed when she got close to us with the bag. Is it like this all the time?? If so, I might have to wait until everything has settled down before I give this place a...
Ā Ā Ā Read moreThis restaurant was an accidental, but amazing find! While driving from New Orleans to Amelia, LA my husband and I decided to stop and grab some dinner. Knowing our options would be limited I started googling restaurants along the route. When Big Mike's BBQ Smokehouse came up I was excited to try some Louisiana BBQ. Seeing that we were abouts 45 minutes away and a nearing closing time, we decided to take a chance. We arrived with about 35 minutes until close. Walked in and were greeted with the most mouth watering smells and the biggest smile behind the counter! Being from Virginia we have a favorite BBQ restaurant so I asked the young lady at the counter if the food really was as good as it smelled. Shanda (sp?) assured us it was. We both ordered the 2 meat platter with brisket, spareribs, coleslaw and fries. Our food was brought to the table by the sweetest young lady who also wore a big smile on her face, I was so excited about the food I forgot to ask her name. šThe ribs had the most delicious rub on them and I finished mine with speed. The brisket was so tender and juicy. I'm not found of coleslaw from many establishments, but this coleslaw was creamy and perfectly seasoned. And the fries were crisp and seasoned just right. And I will not forget the spicy, sweet BBQ sauce we tried! Everyone working here was so pleasant and friendly and all seemed to really enjoy working here. As a former customer service manager this spoke volumes to me especially since we came in so close to closing. We will be making the drive back up to Houma soon to try more delicious food!š PS excuse the bone, food smelled so good I dug in before remembering to...

Shame! Food Total Likesā¦.Customer Service āYikesā Half-Baked Falls Flat! What a pity this good tasting BBQ restaurant puts all the effort into the food and not the ācustomer serviceā. The Staff few smiles, lackluster ācustomer careā attitude serves to dull the entire experience. When attempting to place telephone order the usual response is a abrupt āholdā and then waiting up to 7 minutes dead silent on hold ā¦sometime they pick up again..over times it can take up to 4 times re-dialing to get a person to take order. Then you are flatly and unceremoniously toldā¦āsorry we aināt got no more foodā. Yikes!
The Staff always seems confused disoriented and not a part of a āTeam Spiritā. As a Customer we are subjected to this negative energy and chaos.
Shame on you, Big Mike, for letting shabby staff ruin your reputation and having definitely non repeat customer.
Take a lesson from Companies like Caneās restaurant. Feel the smiles & positive energy even before you reach the counter or takeout window. It is vibrantā¦why? Staff have individual ownership of tasks but are connect and play for the āTeamā. You can feel the positive energy and the Customer are greeted with warm smile, fast efficient and happy service. It is like you really are appreciated. Quote Sam Walton āWe desired our customer service to be not just the best, but legendary.
Big Mikeā¦.what legacy are you leaving. Focus on re-training, inspiring, motivating, pampering and elevating your Staff so they will pass that amazing spirit on to your paying Customers. They deserve it & we deserve it!
