Gourmet House — Restaurant in Houma

Second visit to Gourmet House--we live in central Texas and visit our friend Tammy who lives in Houma. Food and drink have been consistently excellent. Egg drop soup, egg rolls, spring rolls, orange chicken, sesame chicken, pan fried wonton, fried rice, lo mein, beef with broccoli, and other seafood dishes eaten by my wife and Tammy have all been well portioned, cooked to perfection, and served by the most friendly staff. We arrived just before closing on our first visit and were eagerly welcomed by the owner. She and her daughters never rushed us and encouraged us to take our time and enjoy the visit. I love eating in family run establishments, enjoy seeing the family children waiting patiently while the parents serve guests--in turn, they treated our twin boys as if they were their own--they made them finish their homework before leaving! (Just kidding, the staff is awesome, friendly and engaging.) We also love their oolong-jasmine tea sweetened with honey. Usually not a big fan of jasmine tea but their special homemade blend is excellent. We order food to-go from here often. The food is always great. The staff is always friendly. The one problem that this location has is they are never accurate on their wait times. You often wait at least 10 minutes longer than what they tell you over the phone, and when making an order online and putting a specific time for it to be ready, they don’t even pay attention to that time. They started my food at the time it was supposed to be ready.😩 I waited almost exactly 30 minutes longer for my food than when it was supposed to be ready. That’s a long time. This Chinese restaurant has the best food on this side of town! They always bring your order out quick and it's always correct. The Waitresses are always very polite and nice to the children. The atmosphere is very authentic Chinese. They have Chinese paintings and etched glass with beautiful Chinese scene on it. They have a huge bamboo plant and other Chinese Decor around the restaurants. The prices are great! My daughter and I can eat there for under $20! The best waitress there is the girl with the pink hair, Korinn. I go there once a week! I love this place! I recommend it...
