Alma Latina — Restaurant in Houston

We went on Friday for my friends b-day ..a group of 9..loved the show and ofcourse the food..but this was the last time ever of the terrible service from the waitress. We asked for specials she said none..when we order drinks ..she was taking over 30 min to bring those.fyi she never brought mine..then one of us said please add those drinks to my order and bla..cus we did that 5 diff times..we figure she know what shes is doing.WRONG .she never once told us that we couldnt do seperate checks..and she just kept taking our orders...when we least expected it, she came back and told us that she couldnt do seperate checks ..we were so confused bc we never had an issue doing diff checks..she refused to seperate our chks..and the saddest part was her supervisor at the moment didnt do anything when we explained the situation..once they finally agreed to help in a way...they decided bc apparently they could not do 4 seperate bills..the decided to do individual checks.and the worst part was she was overcharging and including the 10 to 15 dollar tip from each of us..she was trying to be a smart* about the whole situation..a charging of things we didnt get..we did order but we never received..and she had nerve to be ugly with words and even said " if you dont like the way your treated then you should not be coming.." never had I ever heard such nasty words from this place..took my friends for a good time and this waitress tried and did take advantage bc to 3 of us she did take over 10 dollar tip..bc manager of the moment said it had to be charge and had to be included...plus the recipt has a line for additional tip after they have already charged you without consent..we are not bad tippers especially when service is great..example I order an appetizer and an entree..and i was charged..prices were 13 and 16. .but i was charged 45 dollars.. plus she was trying to charge drinks she never brought..so it was very ridiculous and sad..because instead of just enjoying and having a good time..we had the worst time and end up not really eating our food since this whole situation it was never ending and we had to close the tab..end up paying extra plus extra extra tip plus attitude from the the staff... i dont appreciate been lied to or taken advantaged of...so just please be careful..it was a very young waitress supported by her manager Chely..at that moment ..and of course with those kind words "if you dont like the treatment then you should not be coming around."..and i do hate that, because i been coming for the last 9 yrs.. but it is what it is...and please chk you bill before you pay and make sure you dont leave additonal tip since based on what you ate your tip is already included..so dont be fooled by adding more to it. My bill was to be 30 dollars top..and paid 45..so just be careful..i know waiter live of tips but they should not be taking...

Update 5.13.22-

I came back on 5.13.22 and was very happy with my experience - I’m rating them a 5, my favorite server was here and was able to restore my faith in Alma’s. She got my order taken and out to me quickly. I will post updates every time I return for a few more weeks, the final rating will be the current rating of the week or two week period. The tacos were amazing. The experience was a complete 180 from the last visit. Way to go.

Update: 4.22.22-

I was here again to give them another chance to raise the score from a 1, but I can’t even do that today. I walked in and sat in the seat I normally do. Not one server came to my table to check on me, no water, no chips, nothing. It’s been 20 mins and two tables that came in after me already received service, chips and their actual drinks. I have chosen to keep the rating at 1 star. I keep giving this place chances, but I don’t think I will any more. As I wrote this, I finally got service…

Service is usually good so I am averaging the service. Tonight the server did not pay attention, it was slow so there is no excuse for my glass to be empty for 15 minutes. Every time I get the server, my service is below expectations. The one on the alternate week is amazing it’s night and day.

The food tonight was good, I only got the popcorn shrimp because in 50 minutes of me being there I was only checked on once, where as other tables were checked on multiple times. This is not acceptable. This will cause me not to come back…. Last time with this server I had to walk up to the drink station and ask other servers to get me refills on water/soda etc.

The other server never lets that happen.

The chicken in everything is the best meat choice. The fish is a close second to the chicken. The ground beef was a little bland and the fajita beef wasn’t...

Our friends and I decided to come here for Valentine’s Day around 11pm so it wasn’t that packed, however, WORST customer service, our waitress who claims to be the manager was rude & took 30minutes to gives a bucket of beer... wrong beers by the way, we asked for water and we never got the water. One of my friends and I decided to order food so we order the parrillada for 2, beef and shrimps — I gotta say that MOSTLY ALL the fajita was rubbery and all it had was fat, there was no meat whatsoever, shrimps were ok, the rice was sightly undercooked, the charros beans .. well there was hardly any beans. So I kept trying to find good pieces of meat but there was none , so I waited to tell our waitress and I was telling him “hey this meat has only fat..” and I got interrupted , I wanted to ask him if there was any way for him to just charge me shrimps but I couldn’t because I got interrupted and his tone of voice went up saying all “the meat we have is like that” and I was like you can hardly eat.. and he replied with “WHAT YOU WANT ME TO DO HUH???” YOU KNOW WHAT ILL JUST CANCEL IT” he grabbed the plates throw the forks on the plates and left.
