First and foremost... try the kool-aid. It's on point if you like kool-aid (the best part of my meal). I got the pork chops w/ rice & gravy, green beans, yams, & Mac n cheese & sweet potatopie slice... where do I start with this meal.... Pork chops... more like shredded instead of whole, it was VERY TOUGH & DRY. Rice... gummy (way over cooked) Mac n cheese.... too spicy (why tho?), dry, taste old (from the day before), cheap cheese Green beans... could have added more flavor so it wouldn't taste as if it came out the can. Yams... omfg them yams was not it... can you say canned yams. It was more of a yam puree instead of candied yams Sweet Potato Pie... it was the bomb
Maybe it was just a bad time to go. My coworker and I went about 11:30ish and they had just opened so I'm going to go out on a limb and say that food was from the day before and they didn't want to waste it... that's f*ed up but it happens in the restaurant business. Wtbs, I will give one more try but after 2pm and see what it be like...
Get you...
Read more100/10. This place is amazing, we stopped in at about 1:30 and unbelievably almost empty!!? This is the best Cajun food I've had in along time, coming from a Cajun that's saying something. We got the beef tips mac n cheese and black eyed peas , each plate comes with rice and gravy and corn bread. The second plate was the turkey leg, sweet potatoes and collard greens,, also with rice and gravy and corn bread. Now, the beef tips were tender and well seasoned and the gravy was absolutely perfect, the rice was perfect texture. The black eyed peas were well seasoned and perfect textured, the Mac n cheese was tender and had a little spice. The turkey leg was fall off the bone and perfectly seasoned, the sweet potatoes were amazing and not too sweet, the collard greens were AMAZING with a little heat, just the way I like. Everything was served with thiccck portions and hot. I cannot recommend this...
Read moreSince leaving Houston, this is another must stop spot on my list when I'm in town. Donald and Tina's place is truly a gem in the NE Houston area. They know their customers by name and you're made to feel welcomed each time you walk through their door. It's like visiting with family. With so many fast food places in the area, it's good to be able to get some good food, variety and veggies. There is so much to choose from. My favorite dinner would be porkchops with rice and gravy (fried hard with extra seasoning), greens and mac n cheese. Breakfast potatoes and eggs with pork chops is the perfect breakfast. I had never had oxtails before either, but I like them now. Friday and Saturday are what I call cracklin' day. If you've never had the homemade kind that Donald makes, you're missing a treat. Just thinking about it...I will see you guys...
