Joe's Cafe — Restaurant in Houston

Great little "hole in the wall" place on Bennington with a walkup counter. The widely varied menu (above counter on the right) has meals centered around beef, chicken, fish, and sausage. With several choices for side dishes listed, including egg rolls, fry's, and many others. You have a range of bottled soda drinks, plus some that give you "brain freeze". Meals are prepared quickly and for a very reasonable price. You can use cash or a card. In a hurry, then call ahead with your order, (pay for it when you get there), this gets your order in line before you arrive. While all meals are packed to go, you can eat in the outside covered seating area. You'll find a few parking spaces in front ( on Bennington ), with more in the lot beside it. Open Monday thru Saturday, but I have eaten there on a Sunday. For Sundays, call to be sure

Cautions: Sometimes they can be very busy, but it is worth the wait. While the menu says cheese burger basket, you MUST ask for CHEESE burger basket, otherwise no cheese, so say what you want EXACTLY. We used to go here years ago and the food and service was great. But My husband and I went in Saturday we were the first customers of the day. Wasn’t treated very nice when we ask if they were open the lady was like the sign says we are. Then we ordered and the older lady cooking cooked the shrimp so hard that u couldn’t eat it. Then she didn’t put the bacon on the burger I ordered and said I only paid for bacon on the fries and the fries already came with bacon I got the deluxe fries. the other lady said yes I paid and they argued and I had to wait on her to cook 2 bacon strips and handed them out the window for me to put on my burger myself. then the cupcakes were so hard I had to return them. Very bad food this time and very bad service. Not sure how they are still in business. The meat on the burger is now pre made fake meat instead of the original patted out Pattie’s.
