My wife took me here to show her appreciation for my hard work taking care of everyone (hint ladies). We live near Iguana Joe’s in Atascocita and occasionally like to come near here to eat at Sharkeys off the lake. I’m that guy that is picky when it comes to Mexican cuisine because in my opinion, 90% of Mexican restaurants all taste the same. I hate that. I like Iguana Joe’s because it’s different than most. A big perk in my book. After today, however, I have to tell you that we will no longer be going to Iguana Joe’s for our local Mexican cuisine: Loco Cantina is the place to be! Parking is a little tight in the area, but that’s no fault of the restaurant. It’s just the way the area was constructed. We walked in the door to instantly be greeted by the host who asked if it was our first time here. I asked to be seated with a view of the water where he led us to the bar facing Lake Houston where we saw kids fishing off the pier. Outside to the left was a field with a family that had a little boy launching a rocket repeatedly. On the inside all along the ceiling were big screen TVs showing sports or whatever you recommend. The bartender, Maria, greeted us with a beautiful smile and personality to match. She was very hospitable and conversed with us throughout our meal (but not too much that it was annoying). She was very informative and worked with her sister, Isabella, that was also very courteous and friendly. Everyone there had a very friendly welcoming attitude that made us feel comfortable as soon as we walked in the door. We started off with 2 jumbo frozen margaritas and complimentary chips and salsa (red & green). The margaritas were served in a giant martini glass with an orange and lime slice along with a big blueberry and mint leaf dressing the center. It was very delicious unlike some frozen house margaritas. We ordered Ceviche for an appetizer and it was awesome! Too much for one person for sure. I ordered the Tony’s-something platter which was very delicious. Shrimp, fish, crawfish tails, mushrooms, bell peppers, onions, tortillas with a side of black beans, pico de gallo, guacamole, and a pyramid of white rice. It’s safe to say that even though it was so delicious and seasoned, I still had some to take home. My wife had the shrimp fajitas which was also seasoned to perfection. I can still taste the seasonings while writing this review. Mmmmm. We were full so we passed when asked for dessert. As we were finishing our margaritas, Maria sets down a scrumptious looking slice of trés leches cake in front of us with 2 spoons. Compliments of the manager! We graciously accepted and I gotta tell you that I agree with my wife when we say that this cake was better than Aranda’s! Soooo good without being too sweet. The cake texture took me by surprise as it was like a sponge, but rougher than expected. I was unsure about the texture, but soon came to realize that it made sense because it didn’t get soggy as most trés leches cake quickly does. It was masterfully created in more ways than just taste. Very impressive indeed. The bill was @ $75, but with 2 JUMBO margaritas, a seafood appetizer, & 2 seafood entrees (not lunch entrees) it wasn’t bad. At least 90% of the entrees were under $20 including seafood. Very decent especially considering the area. Great food. Great atmosphere. Great staff. Great prices. Iguana Joe’s is out. Loco Cantina is my new go to for my choice for Mexican food. No exception. Since it’s next door to Sharkey’s I don’t see my future stops going there either. Loco Cantina is my spot. Check it out!

Read moreFrom the moment I stepped through the doors, I was greeted by a friendly and attentive staff. The atmosphere was lively and welcoming, setting the stage for an enjoyable dining experience.
I eagerly awaited the arrival of my tacos al carbon, filled with fajita beef that was cooked to perfection. While the meat was a bit dry and lacked the sizzle I had anticipated, it was still flavorful and enjoyable. The fresh, crisp toppings added a delightful contrast of textures and flavors to each bite.
The chips, unlike the standard chips often found at other restaurants, were a delightful surprise. Loco Cantina's chips were thick, crispy, and flavorful, offering a satisfying crunch with each bite. The thick chips were the perfect vessel for scooping up the flavorful fillings and salsas.
The absence of outdoor seating, a feature that once drew diners to this location, was a slight disappointment. However, the stunning view over the water, visible from the restaurant's interior, provided a picturesque backdrop to the meal.
Despite the minor shortcomings, Loco Cantina's service was exceptional. The staff remained attentive throughout the meal, ensuring my glass was never empty and my requests were promptly addressed. Their genuine warmth and professionalism added to the overall dining experience.
While the food at Loco Cantina showed promise, I believe it deserves another chance once the restaurant has had more time to establish its culinary identity. The combination of fresh ingredients, creative plating, friendly service, and flavorful fajita beef tacos provides a solid foundation for a successful Tex-Mex restaurant. I look forward to returning and witnessing Loco Cantina blossom into a true...

Facility was clean, the manager (I believe) came out and checked on customers. There were about 7 tables and 7 people at the bar. 7 out of 7 Jonathan was always walking around with a smile, he really set the tone!
House Margarita - Tasted a little on the watery side but has nice presentation. But, no heartburn feeling from those high sugar margaritas. I think this style tastes more like the more authentic margaritas with just tequila, lime and water. These don’t seem like a store bought mix, I assume most people are looking for that tart, more concentrated flavor. 4 out of 7
Supreme W/ Patron & Grand Marnier - the flavor of the mix/ ratios still seems off, much higher alcohol feeling. 5 out of 7. I just need to find the right drink, I’m sure of it they have one that will knock it out of the park.
Jonathan’s Choice (if he wasn’t working) Cabo Rita (As pictured) HOLY BUCKETS! This drink would be dangerous… Great job!
Chips & Salsa - chips tasted over cooked, salsa has a nice spice that’s fair for all. I enjoyed the Green sauce. 2 out of 7
The Texas Quesadillas with ground beef are PHENOMENAL! Guacamole & Sour cream were fresh and delicious. My side of fresh jalapeños were spot on! 6 out of 7.
All in all, I WILL be back. This place has the friendliest, most helpful staff. Happy times, I watched other staff always checking on tables. I have officially been to each Mexican restaurant in Kingwood.
The tres leches...
