New Garden Chinese Restaurant — Restaurant in Howe Township

Best Chinese food in the state. Some friends discovered this restaurant in 2000 when they had to take a bathroom break from the highway, and I am still returning 16 years later. The ingredients here appear to be fresh, which differs from many of the Chinese restaurants that use prepackaged vegetables. I have yet to find any Chinese restaurants in State College, Philadelphia, or Pittsburgh that have better food.

Unfortunately, I lowered my rating from 5 stars to 4 because of maintenance issues in the dining area that have surfaced since 2015. The ceiling lights have bugs in them and the tables need to be removed so that the floors can have a deep cleaning. Some of the lights are not working and the chairs need to be repaired. I ordered from here yesterday because I just moved to the area and had a craving for some Chinese food. Unfortunately, I was disappointed. The overall taste of the food is okay. The service was okay, they were friendly. However, I ordered Sesame chicken with pork fried rice and a few pork egg rolls. Again, most of the food tasted okay, the texture killed it though. Everything was mushy and soft and not at all what a fresh plate of Chinese food is supposed to be. The egg rolls were definitely the best part of my experience, they had a good flavor and even after reheating them, still were good. I probably will not go back here again though. The first thing that I notice was the lady's straight forward no emotion attitude when ordering. I got a lunch general tzos lunch special and asked for extra hot peppers to make it hotter. I only got one single pepper AND the lunch did not come with an egg roll. The prices were overall high, which I understand however for the same price you can get better quality and service elsewhere.
