Went to this place Saturday June 28th. We were on a Saturday drive and since we had been here before, we decided to try it again. Terrible idea. There were approximately 15 customers and one bartender (female about 65 years old) and one cook. There was one open booth that required cleaning before we sat down. As the bartender walked by she said, let me clear that table and you can sit down. We waited patiently as the bartender poured some drafts for a couple at the bar. She proceeded to chat at the bar for the next ten minutes, knowing full well we were waiting. In that time ten people had left. She was just puttering around trying hard not to make eye contact. A man walked up to us and told us we have to order at the bar. You can’t order at the tables. He said he waited at the table for 20 minutes then she finally told him to order at the bar. Now she’s ignoring both of us. For context, this man was of Asian descent and I’m Mexican. The only two minorities for 50 miles, I’m sure. She looks past the other man and tells me I’m next. I guess Mexican is higher than Asian or it could be that my wife is white. I point to the other man and say he was waiting before me. I ask her if she’s going to clear the table and she says, you have to order at the bar. Mind you, there are menus in the booth. Why have menus in the booth if you have to order at the bar? They only serve beer, no liquor. So we decided to go somewhere else. I have to say, it’s been a long time since I’ve seen a waitress or bartender so obviously bothered by certain customers. Those good ol’ boys were getting the sweet, chatty, bartender. All I can think is this lady must make a lot of income from state benefits if she’s not concerned about making tips. It’s literally like stepping into the 1940s, the aesthetic and the demeanor of the people. If you’re the good ol’ boy type, you’ll love this place. If you’re not, don’t bother. They’ll do everything they can to make you uncomfortable and make you leave.
Even though we were there in the light of day, I recommend they rename this place “The Sundowner.” It would make it so much easier for people who...
Read moreI’ve gone here for years. Have family who’s lived in the Valley and worked, gone here since the 60’s. I usually love this place. But tonight we had the WORST experience ever. When we walked in the bartender was too busy chatting with her friends at the bar to acknowledge us. We sat down, when she came over we ordered drinks. She forgot mine! she came back a few min later and took our food order, 2 star burgers. We sat there chatting amongst us and chilling. More people came in, a lady at the bar and a group of 4 who sat behind us. The lady at the bar got her to go order quick… no biggie, it was a single order. After about 45-50 min I went up to the bar to order another drink and place a Togo order for our kids. It took about 5 min for her to acknowledge me, and the cook took out 2 burgers as I stood there…thought they were ours…nope! Got our beer and sat back down, about 15 min later she came out with a bag with our Togo order. I asked here where our original order was….deer in the headlights look. She went to the kitchen and came back and told us it never made it to the kitchen. I told her to just make them Togo as well as we’ve been waiting over an hour. Ridiculous service! The owners need to hire people who care about the place more than their friends hanging out. This is a LOCAL place, the locals who’ve been around for years don’t care about the snotty youngsters coming from out of town. Take care of your customers over your friends. When we got home the...
Read moreThis place is truly historic. The service is the worst. We came in early for dinner to avoid the dinner rush. We sat at the St. Bernard table (if you know you know) , We soaked in the historic atmosphere and after 25 minutes our waitress stopped to get our orders. A couple burgers and chips. 45 minutes later we were served our burgers and bags of baked lays chips. We had noticed the Cash only signs above the bar but not sure if this was just a silly joke posted under a jackalope. When the waitress came by to drop off the tab. I asked. She was obviously bothered by my question and pointed at the Handwritten CASH ONLY post. I was worried because Huntsville is a distance from banks and most of the stores close before 6pm. I told my husband I’ll walk outside and try to find an atm. I wandered outside and the charming town had nothing like a bank anywhere. I went back to troubleshoot this cash issue. My husband had seen other diners go to the atm in the bar. Relieved. I wasn’t going to wash dishes. We withdrew cash paid our tab, tipped the waitress and left the oldest pub in the area. I was disappointed in the lousy service the fact that in 2025 no option for payment other than an old atm with a $3.50 fee to pay cash. I loved the idea of this place but the experience...
