The Upper Block Sports Bar and Grill — Restaurant in Hurley

Brought some people from Italy for a Friday night fish fry and we were greeted and served by a waitress with a very snippy attitude, not friendly or welcoming at all. Definitely brought the vibes down. Took about 45 minutes for food to arrive, which was kind of expected considering we had 11 people. We went there about two weeks prior to this and had way better service. Highly disappointing considering we spent over $200 for dinner here when there many other places with better service and food. Fries were bland and just oily, brought it home seasoned it up and air fried and it was better. Rolls were hard and butter was already spread on it 😬. Fish was good. My daughter got a cheese quesadilla and when i asked what was in it while ordering, snippy waitresses said whatever you want on it. No need to be nasty to customers. Just wanted to make sure there wasn't anything spicy or something that would not be kid friendly. Before the male waiter came, my husband had to go back to the bar to get more beers. The waitresses attitude seemed to change when the male waiter started working, but she never came back to our table after she brought the food out 🤷🏻‍♀️ On a positive note, the place was clean and...

New owners - fantastic food - great service! We were greeted almost immediately walking into the door (which is so nice to see!). Tried the Mint Mojito N/A off the mocktail menu - 10/10 the most refreshing summer drink! This is the haddock fish fry plate with the homemade hand cut fries (MY FAVORITE - so flavorful, I may dream about these fries!) The fish pieces are so juicy, not fishy, and are thick - you’re getting a bang for your buck that’s for sure.

With a rebrand it’s going to take some time to really get a good standard going so please give this business grace. They have already made leaps and bounds in the right direction.

The new owners are doing a great job of bringing some fresh and fun ideas into Hurley. All of the food I've tried has been cooked and presented well. I really appreciate all of the vegetarian options to choose from. The plant based burger and loaded veggie wrap are both excellent. They also have tons of plant based starters. Their deep fried pickles are the best I've ever eaten. Although the cocktails are excellent, I especially love the creative emphasis on their mocktails. Owners are friendly and accommodating and The Upper Block is always our first choice for grabbing food...
