First time customer: I placed an order through the website for pickup. When I arrived the business appeared closed, a boarded up window, locked, dark, chairs tipped over inside, a few dollars cash on the counter. Confused, I asked others if the place had closed and was told that no they were just drunk and sleeping in the restaurant. I waited 2 days and then called to see if I could pick up my order. I was told that all the food had to be replaced due to a power outage and they could make it tomorrow. When I called the next day I was told tomorrow again. The next time I called they were out of power again and I was told tomorrow for a third time. I called again and finally was told they were open and could fill the order but then an alarm started going off and he told me to callback in 5 minutes. At this point I just went to the restaurant to finish placing my order. I added an additional meal and they did not have change for a $20 so I had to wait extra for them to very slowly go next door and get it. I hoped based on reviews I read the food would make up for all this. The butter chicken was average at best and what finally did me in and caused me to write this review was my over charred naan. I will...
Read moreI was looking forward to trying this place, especially after the great reviews. The samosas were good, but the chutney was watery and flavorless with an applesauce consistency. The Alo naan filling was poorly mixed, like all potato in one bite, then eye-wateringly salty crushed cilantro the next. The naan bread itself was perfect, and really why I gave 2 stars. The Saag Paneer was almost inedible, weird French clay green color with barely cooked onions, a thick layer of oil on top, and separating, giving it a congealed slime texture. I picked out the paneer, mixed it with the rice, that tasted like refrigerator, and threw the rest away. Other than the naan bread, minus the filling, the paneer I fished out, and the samosa, minus the chutney, everything else reminded me of being 20, hungover, and starving, digging leftovers of an uncertain age out of the refrigerator to warm up. The service was great, super pleasant and on time, and maybe they were having a bad food day, but I'm not sure I would giving them another try...
Read moreThis is the definition of a hidden gem/hole in the wall, down to the most quirky details. They don't always answer the phone, seem to close at random times, and you have to make sure to check your order, but if you're patient, this is some of the best food you'll ever have.
We get it about once every couple weeks, driving 20+ minutes and it's honestly worth double that distance. And even with the minor quirks, they're the nicest people and always so generous if we're missing something.
We've tried a decent amount of the dishes, but always seem to come back to the same few: Butter chicken, vindaloo, chicken tikka, naan, samosas...and their best dish: The onion and cheese naan with butter sauce. So much developed flavor in all of the dishes, so much more interesting than anything else in the area.
I'm sure just about everything here is good. Even if you've never tried Indian food, give it a shot. I've tried Indian in bigger cities, and this small joint next to a carry out...
