My family decided to here today based on their past reputation in the city and just for a change of pace. They ordered a full slab of ribs, fries with and without sauce, and a small hotlink. I wasn’t a fan of their hotlink; although the links were hot tasting, the link itself was too fatty with little fatty bubbles. The look of the fatty bubbles alone was a turn-off, but the rests were just a leathery chewy mess. Not a go-to in my book; on the other hand, the ribs we're plentiful and pretty tasty. What lacked in smoke flavor made up for in a meaty, tender smothered in a mild flavor of barbecue sauce. If you like mild sauce then you will enjoy their sauce, but I was more of an enthusiast for a mixture of mild/hot combination barbecue sauce which was provided on the hotlink sausage. The only type of fires they have are the seasoned fries which I am not a fan of either but with a little barbecue sauce and bread, it makes for a delectable fries sandwich. There has been much to do about how they cook their ribs, well let me just say this because when LEONS first opened it was much the same as all neighborhood barbecue rib joints. Then the cooking staff changed hands right before the old man retired or past away. The style of how the meat was cooked changed from ALL SMOKED to BOILED AND SOMEWHAT SMOKE COOKED, kind of like the way CARSON RIBS cooked their meat. You guys remember CARSON RIBS right??! It was the same place that was popular for years and was a go-to for many events I went to back in the day. Folks just loved them some CARSON for it tender and meaty falling off the bone flavor. It was always a decent place but never understood why they were so popular when the meat was never OPEN PITTED cooked. Anyway, this place was decent and like most places, one day the meat is cooked to perfection, and the next time it is depending on the cook is just okay. I will probably go back just for the ribs and...
Read moreThis is my go to for bbq when I am not preparing my own. Food is always good, good portions and the pricing is competitive and there is no significant wait time. However, my customer service check out staff have been impatient, curt, and argumentative. Two days ago she waved my card twice and it was declined. I knew money was there but it could have been anything. When I read my receipt I realized she was waving my card. I never use my card this way. I returned to the window requested that she either use the chip or swipe it. She looked at me as if I was totally disturbed her day. Mind you I am always the only one in line. She told me angrily this is the last time! If I didn't want that order, I would have assured her that was the last time. Customer service reigns supreme in most blacks mind. You can not have the best product but a great attitude and you will last as long as we have $. My card went through. How much money have she lost for this business because she was too lazy, arrogant or prideful to...
Read moreLet me just say this... I took a friend with me and I had been telling them about 106 Leons for some time...her response was " Oooooweeee this is worth the trip" We got the large rib tip for $14.00 to share between us and PLENTY of TENDER JUICY TIPS. Great mild sauce too. She was impressed with how clean the seated dining area and the bathroom was clean too!. I'm going back to try LEONS ribs. Original Leons is on 4500 Archer and the one Denzel Washington went to is on east 63rd just before Stony Island (and across from Rev. Brazier's Church) Just try it any location....you will be hog...
