I do miss the samburger/busy bees. But it's undoubtable that phatt tabs is great in its own right. Quite possibly the best brisket and potato salad in town.
The meat sandwiches (like turkey) are huge and the meat is cut thick. You add the sauce (they give you a cup) you want so it doesn't get soggy and it's most to your taste. But you'll want to remember to put some on. I think the sauce is house made but I honestly don't know enough to accurately judge that and haven't actually asked. It has a bite, but isn't actually spicy.
I go about once a month when I need to pick up food and pills from the vet for my pets.
Pro tip though, bring your own drink.
It's $1.50 for a can of soda. Which at one point I was desperate enough to actually pay. It wasn't even really cold.
Every place marks up the drinks. But a can isn't adequate for this portion of food, and the price is pretty high for something you may need to buy 2-3 of per person just to comfortably eat all that.
Maybe they can save money and invest in a fountain machine. Which can allow larger drinks and a greater markup that doesn't feel so bad or jarring.
I don't blame or hate them for the drink thing, and I do understand the reasoning behind the choice and hope they are successful long term.
I just want to warn people in the here and now about a surprise that might sour...
Read moreDrove 3 hours after reading the article in Texas Monthly and reading other’s reviews. Not worth the drive in my personal opinion. Arrived around 1pm and they were already sold out of everything but sausage which is not uncommon in the bar-b-que business however as we sat and ate we overheard them take several large call in orders for the next day. Now this may typically, he may need to adjust the amount he smokes to adjust for the increase of customers based on his recent Texas Monthly article. We got the smoked cheese grits and the white trash potato salad. The grits were decent, just your plain of the mill cheese grits topped with crushed cheez-it crackers, and the potato salad was just that, potato salad. The sausages were ok but nothing to write home about. Don’t expect to be able to use any facilities while you are there because there is none, unless there was an outhouse out back...
Read moreThe quintessential craft BBQ experience in middle of nowhere Oklahoma. A small unassuming joint that sits right off the highway, Phat Tabbs serves the most impressing ribs and pulled pork I have tasted in a long time. The bark on the ribs is just right, the bite is semi soft where the meat offers just the prefect resistance before coming off the bone. Notes of oak dissipate in the palate, complementing, rather than overtaking the earthy and sweet flavor of Duroc. The pulled pork shoulder is perfectly pulled. A generous heap of long intertwined strings of moist and juicy pork that melts in one’s mouth provide the perfect dichotomy between a heavenly pleasure and a sinful indulgence, giving birth to the most delightful conundrum of flavor. Portions are hefty and for the quality, the pricing is beyond modest. Best BBQ is SE...
